Okay so I have had problems modding my minecraft. I downloaded it after the recent update, so I am still quite new at this. I have also run into problems with my texture packs. I'll start with my process on the mods.
I have WinRar, or WinRaR archiver, as it is called on my computer. I run it and load up the minecraft. I do this by finding my minecraft folder, going versions, and then opening 1.6.2 jar using WinRar. By this point I will have the mod downloaded on my computer. The one I am currently testing is the minimap one. I then open said mod using WinRar also. I control alt to highlight everything and then drag and drop it into minecraft. My friend then told me to delete the META-INF file because it messes the mods up. I delete it, and I have tried deleting it before and after adding the mod. Once I have deleted it I close everything and load minecraft. I go into my "mod test" single player world and nothing. So I continue with my adventure back to opening minecraft with winrar, as I did before, and find that the META-INF file is still there. I have attempted to delete this thing forever. -.- Please someone have a solution.
My second problem is just with texture packs in general. So this is the process I go through.
Download the texture pack. Find it in the computer, copy the folder, load minecraft. Open the minecraft texture pack folder, and paste it into that folder. Now this worked for about three texture packs. It glitched out after I deleted my texture pack. I can't seem to get it to load up the next texture pack. Solutions?
Are you actually downloading a resource pack? You may be trying to download a texture pack. Also, try extracting the content of the resource pack into a new folder (any name) and put it in the resourcepacks folder in .minecraft
