Hello!
I have lots of experience installing mods, whcih is why this has completely baffled me. I am using minecraft version 1.5.2 with the new launcher (Due to a server I'm waiting on to update to 1.6.*). I have attempted to install ONLY mod loader onto the jar, and have followed the steps I always have since the launcher, with previously successful results. Upon reaching the Mojang loading page, the game crashes and spits the following at me:
Minecraft has crashed!
----------------------
Minecraft has stopped running because it encountered a problem; ModLoader has failed to initialize.

I also had a problem with the launcher recently, It wouldn't open up minecraft but crash almost as soon as it started. I dont know what folders have to do with anything, but when opened up the new launcher from a folder it opened MC without a problem, while when I tried it on my desktop screen it always crashed.

Bumped:
I've tried updating Java manually, it still spits a crash at me. ONLY when I install mod loader- I may just have to wait until everything updates. The other weird thing I've noticed is that it won't install a 1.6.2 jar for me when I select that as my version. >.<
