my forge says there was a fatal error in starting up FML its the latest version but no matter how hard I try I cant get it to work

Try uninstalling and reinstalling forge. This happend to me and it turned out that I had incorrectly installed forge.

either you didn't install all forge files or you overwrote some of them. This error is also often caused by overwriting optifine files with the ones from forge. If using optifine it has to be installed after forge
