Am i the only one with this problem? I know they added this "Internal server" thing, but I thought that was only ment for LAN Connections? When I am on my Single Player World everything is alot laggier, and sometimes it does a 30 second rollback, as if i was on a server that just happen to lag for a bit, and which everything i did was reset, leaving me have to do it all over again, along with that, it seems to be laggier in FPS too, Along with my Mem usage is ALOT HIGHER now, used to run java with like 250K? now it tops off at 510k (checked this using Task manager). Is there anything i can do to reduce this? Also, I don't have teh "best" computer, but i could play with 20-60fps on Tiny Render distance.
Minecraft basically runs on a server no matter how you're playing it, singleplayer included. One possibility that you can do that should help is to actually setup a different PC with LAN (if you have another account) or the server client to host your world and connect to it like you're playing on a server. That way the PC you're playing on doesn't actually have to do the work of running the world too and it will free up resources.

So basically what you're saying is people who get this problem should buy another PC just to play the game?
Not really an option for most people.
I'm sure The minecraft team will fix this problem soon enough. They only switched to the "always a server" single player a few months back.
Im having problems since the update.. mob behaviour and movement is completley different.. acting more like they did on multiplayer in the past.. choppy stuttering and laggy movement..
Unfortunately I think that's going to be the status quo for the time being. Think about it. If they could have improved it for SMP they probably would have done so by now. The good news is that now they know there is definitely an issue with their server/client communication and not just Internet latency involved, so hopefully they can figure out where the procedural bottlenecks are and hopefully make some headway.

I'm just offering an alternative. I understand it might not be one some people can take advantage of. However for example if you have a friend who has a really good desktop perhaps you can get them to host your world for you for the time being. Some families have setup their best PC in the house to host a world they all play on.
I played for a couple hours before the update and ran smooth as butter. Soon as i update, there is more latency now, and i can no longer ride up my elevators anymore because of the latency. Performance is obviously taking a hit and has nothing to do with my machine. It is thier pathetic server code. I stopped playing SMP last year because their code was bad then, obviously nothing has improved, they just thrust it down single players throats. Having to run another machine to act as a server to play a single player game would be pretty stupid. Somebody at Mojang needs to pull their finger out, and then go hire somebody who understands network coding. Btw i do like thier other game improvements, too bad it is marred by my previous statement.

I got no lag at all. Still at 300 fps on far render distance. Just depends on the computer.

Intel i5 4690k, EVGA GTX 970 SC, 8 gigs of ram, Samsung 840 pro 256 gig SSD, ASUS Sabertooth Mark II Motherboard, Antec 900 Case, WD Black 2 TB Hard Drive.
I have a pretty decent PC that I built over a year ago for less than $800 (I'm not bragging; what I have is pretty average for a gaming rig). I run Minecraft on max settings with an HD texture pack, and I get NO LAG.
If you're lagging like crazy, maybe it's time to upgrade your computer.
If you don't have the means to upgrade your computer, you need to accept that as Minecraft gains features, it will require more power to run. Stop blaming Minecraft and start blaming your PC.
In the mean time, run on low settings and wait for Optifine to update.
The odd thing, at least for myself ,is that the pre-release runs better than 1.3.1.
Part of the reasoning for the merge was to improve the code for multiplayer, which it certainly is better than before. Not quite the old singleplayer potency, but much better.
And upgrading the computer should not be the reasoning behind getting out of the graphical issues. Unless the game provides actual graphical minimums, then it should be capable of running on a standard laptop at a decent level (Normal, fast). Certainly someone with a computer that can play sixteen high graphics games and twelve movies can easily play minecraft to their hearts' content, but we shouldn't, if it is possible, restrict games to those with powerful computers. So this is an issue of the game, not the computer.
It will likely get fixed, and then broken, and fixed, and so on. But I'm returning to the pre-release myself.
quite frankly implementing a server into single player at all times was not a brilliant idea...
Why should my minecraft have to run a server and client all in one if I want to play single player?
All this is doing is causing lag between the two, despite both being ran within the same instance. Now, say I Wanted to open it to lan then sure go ahead and start the server and all that jazz... but when I am playing by myself, why should I start lagging like the few times I tried to play on servers...
now don't blame this one my computer...
amd phenom II X4 965 OC to 4.0
16GB ddr3 memory
amd radeon 6970
... you get the point
tldr; MY computer is pretty nice. great FPS server like lag is unbearable.
Has to be some other issue going on because I just ran 1.3.1 in single player all night with no lag ever, and I'm running a similar but inferior PC that the two I see listed here.
As you can see the processor is slower and older than the two mentioned. I'm had to turn the graphics to fast. And I'm getting 50+ FPS and no lag.
Now single player runs just like multiplayer now. IE things occasionally warp, funky chunk loads. And for the life of me I can't figure out what they changed with the creepers, cause the buggers explode on my ass, where I had the timing down pretty well so they didn't go off before I kill em. Those are not issues caused by lag, my processor is running under 40% load, and my graphics card ain't doing squat.
At least the game is playable for me.
I did notice a bug though. When I first log in. I don't have sound. And for about the first 10 minutes or so, till the sound kicks in, my frames are noticeably lower. Then all of a sudden I'll have sound and the frames jump up and off I go. Gata love computers.
Im having problems since the update.. mob behaviour and movement is completley different.. acting more like they did on multiplayer in the past.. choppy stuttering and laggy movement..
Yup thats Mojang for you, it's hard not to flame when they keep doing crap like this. all the mobs are stuttering like crazy, why they added the Internal server, i'll never know, you can do the same thing by just hosting a server and not port forwarding....

Oh I can tell you the 2 reasons they added this stupid internal server. First it was so that when Minecraft gets an update, with Singleplayer being a part of multiplayer, its easier for Mojang to release one update so that both Singleplayer and Multiplayer get updated, and secondly, because Mojang is in HUGE support of mods.
They should have left the game alone, and all would have been fine. Now I need to find out how to go back to 1.2.5, because the only reason I played singleplayer, was because playing multiplayer lagged so much, large chunks wouldn't load in the world, mobs/animals glitching all over the place, yea, Mojang really messed up this time.

ugh this update doesn't support mods worth a damn, i had to jump through hoops and stay up all night to figure out how to to something as simple as giving a player an item because addItemStack() doesn't work any more!!!! and my mod is a minecraft wide trading/talking mod.... IT NEEDS TO BE ABLE TO DO THAT STUFF!!!
this is why they should of done the merge on the 'background'
there was no reason to include it in 1.3 if we weren't getting the mod api...... also with all the bug fixes we shouldn't have gotten this
which are the main excuses for the merge, bug fix being easier (less work) and the mod api
we have both (bugs galore, and no mod api)
which is why i just don't understand mojang...... i know they test everything with the community, but the merge is one thing I didn't want to test.... seriously
I don't really know where to put this- if someone knows a where to find the right bug-reporting thread, please give the link.
Ever since 1.3, I have been having some glitches. First of all, when I load a world, it doesn't do what it should. It shows the title screen, frozen in one position, until the world is completely loaded. Then, randomly, my Minecraft closes randomly, without any warning. Then when I use Misa's Texture Pack, the gui background for the inventory and stuff is completely white, and also the night sky! Then, the weirdest reason, and also the reason I posted here, is my most recent glitch. I was just randomly exploring a large-world-type jungle, and minecraft exits, but not completely. It said this:
Disconnected by Server
Internal Server Error
this is singleplayer!!!I kept trying to open my world again and again, and still getting the error. Finally, it crashed and I got this error report:
Minecraft has crashed!
---------------------- Minecraft has stopped running because it encountered a problem; Exception in server tick loop

By the way, the only mod I have installed is Too Many Items, (that's the only 1.3.1 mod I could find) but I was having the same problems before I modded 1.3.
What should I do?New problem: Zombies are glitchy; when I hit them in creative mode, they attempt to walk toward me in little jolts, then lose interest.
