After the most recent kernel upgrade of Ubuntu 13.04, Minecraft 1.4.7 under Feed The Beast Ultimate mod pack became sluggish to the point of being almost unplayable. I tried booting with old kernel, disabling Compiz, upgraded LWJGL to 2.9, checked that OpenJDK 7 64-bits is running, allocated 5GB of RAM to Minecraft, absolutely nothing makes any difference. Seems something has been updated in X.Org that screws everything up. Current kernel is 3.8.0-25. With previous kernel, 3.8.0-23, system boots on a blank screen and I can do nothing.
I am running on a Core i7 3770K with 16GB of RAM, using the builtin Intel HD4000 graphics. I cannot believe this configuration is not powerful enough to run Minecraft. The modpack works under Windows 7 without being so sluggish. I just cannot test with a graphic card, because that would force me to take my Minecraft server down or dismantle my HTPC. I cannot update to Minecraft 1.5 either since my map depends on all these mods in the FTB modpack!
Why people are never responding to Ubuntu questions? Since a few months, I am getting NO help, anywhere, except useless advice and things I already know. Is it because people moved out of Ubuntu? Then what is the new target? Mac? This is very annoying to be the only one that does not know and have NO way to figure out.
