Ok, so I'll make this quick, I'm experimenting with replacement sounds and custom music for an adventure map. I recently remembered that Ghasts have no range on their sound effects, so I thought that, (using Audiotori until 1.6 and the resource packs came out) I would replace one of the moan sounds with a music track and spawn it with an egg. I won't go in to the details on how I planned to have it play without a Ghast in the level or have it loop, but suffice to say, it would work in all game modes 100% of the time.
The main problems with this are that Minecraft randomly changes the pitch of sound effects, and that said effects appear to have a time limit somewhere around 30 seconds. Are there any mods I can use to remove both of these limitations, or should I just sit back and hope that resource packs fix everything on their own?
The pitch change is coded into the game. You would have to modify a few base classes to remove it.
That's what I was afraid of. How difficult of a mod is it to make? Assuming I could get it done myself once I get an idea of exactly what I have to change, and given the goal of resource packs, I'm pretty sure I could include it with my map once it's done. Then of course there's the matter of the time limit...
First, I would use forge, not modloader, but it doesn't really matter. You would then decompile the minecraft.jar using MCP, and then edit EntityGhast.

Curse PremiumWell that does sound simple enough. Then again the most experience I have with Minecraft modding is trying, and failing to import a custom mob.

Curse PremiumIf it's all the same actually, I'd rather just be directed on how to do it myself. That way if I need to do it again, I don't need to call for help!
