here's the deal, i upgraded to 1.5.2 and downloaded all the updates for the mods i was using. when i went to add the latests forge update, it says it's not compatible. huhh?! then i added the latest optifine and it *also* was deemed incompatible. anyone know what's going on? oh yes i should have said in the outset that i'm using magic launcher 1.1.5.
this is the first time i've ever had problems with the launcher, but for the sake of saying i did it, i did the manual install. on the launcher though it says 1.4.7 is there. i replaced it with the current forge and it said both that and optifine were not compatible. and yes, i deleted the meta file.
the thing with the launcher is that it inserts the files virtually into the jar w/o actually putting them there so the jar never gets modified directly. otherwise i'd have to install all nine of my mods and god help me if one of them went wrong since there's no way to debug manual installs.

You have nine jar mods? Usually there are only a couple, forge and such. The rest go into the mods folder.
You said originally that you were trying to upgrade to 1.5 but just now you said that it says 1.4.7. I may just be misunderstanding you though.
If you did it manually, what is saying "not compatible"? It would either work or we would have a crash log to work with heheh.
well the mods are added through the launcher and are considered internal. the ones from the mods folder are classed as external so i got the idea they're being put in the jar unless they're in the mods folder. what was up with the forge confusion is even though it installed 1.5.2 in the jar, launcher was only detecting .1.4.7. then when i added 1.5.2 into the internal mods list, both it and optifine became incompatible. i'll go back and plug the mods into the mods folder and see what happens.
Basically it sounds like the launcher doesn't think you updated. Try force updating through magiclauncher options, then adding your 1.5.2 jar mods again.

edit: now it's stuck on the "done loading" screen
