I just updated to 1.5 and HATE it for the simple fact that movement is not the same as it was in 1.4.x! What I have noticed in 1.5 is that if you are moving in a direction and do anything, like swing your sword, your movement stops! If I am kiting a creeper, I can't keep taking my fingers off the keyboard and putting them back on just to move backward! If you are moving through moving water and put a torch up, you stop moving in the direction your were headed.
Also, if you are crouching and do anything, you stop crouching.
I also hate that I can't just shift click on a stack in my inventory and make it go into the chest that I have open. I do like some of the other inventory item tweaks, but they don't make up for losing the ability to make items instantly go into a chest.
If this doesn't get fixed/changed, I am going to be a very sad/upset player!

Are you sure about this? I haven't noticed anything different.

When exploring caves I put torches on the right hand side of the cave. Now when I do it, my movement stops. I have to take my finger off the keyboard and put it back down to move forwards again.

I am using 3 mods: Forge, Rei's Mini-map and What's My Light Level.

Uninstall The Mods, And Try Again.
Mods Can Change Just About Anything.

it is the mods try uninstalling them

Since I was using Magic Launcher, removing the mods was no problem. I removed them and still had the problem. So, I went ahead and just tried using the minecraft.exe to play the game and STILL have the problem. When I logged onto the game, it asked me if I wanted to update, I am using 1.5 right now, so I am going to update and see if I still have the problem afterwards as this is a VERY annoying problem!

Well, I updated to 1.5.1 and I still have the problem. No matter what I try while I am moving, I stop moving when I do it. Walking along and put a torch, my toon stops. Walking along and swing my sword for the fun of it, my toon stops. I can be walking and use food and it stops me in my tracks.
What is wrong??

And again I will say no there are no mods being run or installed nor launchers. Just a plain clean minecraft version 1.5.1. The biggest pain in the butt right now is crouching and placing blocks. I crouch down and place a block and become uncrouched. This makes it very dangerous to cross any large gaps, especially in the Nether!! Imagine my grief when I lost my newly enchanted silk touch pick because I became uncouched and fell off the edge into lava in the Nether!
Please help!!

I am going to try a fresh install of Minecraft and see if that helps any.

OK, I deleted Minecraft and re-installed it and that fixed my movement problem. Now, none of my texture packs will load and they are all 1.5.1.

*Sigh* If it's not one thing, it's another!!

I had that same problem until I updated the LWJGL. im on windows 8 and the only version that seems to work is 2.9.0. when not that either movement is bugged or worlds don't load properly.
