Since I couldn't find a support section for textures I hope this is the correct place to put this.
I'm having a strange problem that I can't seem to find the answer to myself. I've been trying to figure it out for a few days but unfortunately I haven't found a solution.
I downloaded and installed JohnSmithLegacy textures...it installed and works just fine. My problem is now I'm trying to customize some of the textures and when I save and put it back in the texturepacks folder then open minecraft the textures have not changed. These are very minor changes; All I'm doing is editing a few sections of the terrain.png file (changing the yellow flowers to purple, changing the color of the blanket on the bed and changing the art paintings in kz.png.)
I have done this in the past. Same exact changes to the same exact files. The last time I was able to do this successfully was several montsh ago, maybe up to a year. I have dabbled in texturepacks and mods previously but when I had a hardware failure and lost all my data on my old PC I stopped playing minecraft for awhile. Now I'm getting back into it and have hit a few bumps in the road with some of the changes I used to make but now can't. I'm not sure if it is because of minecraft updated versions or I am just forgetting to take a step somewhere.
Proceedure: So what I'm doing is opening JohnSmithLegacy.zip with winrar. I'm not extracting the files, I'm opening the .zip and opening the file terrain.png in Paint Shop Pro 9. I make my changes to the file, then I save. Winrar then says "the file has been modified do you wish to update the archive?" so I click "yes". It saves, then I open .minecraft and place JohnSmithLegacy.zip in the texturepack folder. (I have even verified the file has saved with my changes by closing everything, reopening terrain.png and viewing the changes). I start up minecraft, log in. On the main screen I click "options", "texture packs" and select "JohnSmithLegacy.zip" and click "done". The textures in the main screen change, I load my single player world....look around and find that the textures I had changed are still the John Smith originals. I have tried changing the name of the zip incase the textures had been cached, I have tried unzipping JohnSmithLegacy.zip, making the changes I want, then re-zipping (which made the texturepack unusable somehow-minecraft wouldn't load it correctly)
I have tried repeatedly to get these minor changes to work but nothing I try works. I know I am able to make changes to textures successfully in these versions of minecraft/mods, I have changed a few textures in the Mo'creatures mod with no problems, so I'm not sure what the problem could be. Like I said, I dabble in customization and mods so my knowledge in these areas is moderate but rusty, and if things changed with the newer version of Minecraft I don't know how they effect the changes im trying to make.
Any insight into this issue would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
~Kierra
