I am a complete noob to modding, and I downloaded forge into my minecraft. Everything works fine, and I have a few other mods installed. When I tried to install EE3, however, it said that my forge was out of date. How do I go about updating it?
always best to start with a fresh jar and install it the same way you installed it last time when updating to a newer version, that cuts down on errors caused by anything old left by mistake

Start with a fresh .jar? What do you mean (I guess 'out of the water' really describes me, huh)?

first to get to the .minecraft folder go to run then type %appdata% then do this: .minecraft>Bin>Minecraft.jar delete that then load up MC again then settings>forceupdate click that then log in.... or i just realized the easier way just typing that is just to do "load up MC again then settings>forceupdate click that then log in".... well the other way is good for a complete clean out of MC also.

What do I do with the mods in my mods folder? Won't they conflict with the game if there is no forge support?
Don't start a fresh jar just replace the old forge files with the new forge files and it should run fine *I did that with Optifine once and no probs* and one more thing ZombieTV that's so stupid everyone with a brain in his head knows that if there's no mod support then minecraft will not see the mods folder it will think the mods folder is a useless file and will not load any mods

you delete them all or just drag them to your desktop
