I'm not sure this should go here but i do not play vanilla anymore so i guess this is the right place. I have been playing MC for years, since the Halloween update and have had tolerable frame-rates. It seems lately my frame-rates are intolerable, 20fps. It is simply unbearable to play at this fps. I do not wish to adjust graphical settings and or lower view distance.
I have run the game with my performance window open (cntrl - alt - delete) and i often catch my processor operating at about 100% and I am only using half of my available memory 2 gb of about 4 gb. What i think this indicates is that my processor is the bottleneck so i am pretty much screwed on this one, i cannot get more memory or a better video card, and need a new system. Do you guys agree with this assessment?
My current system is
emachine et 1831-97
Intel Pentium duel core E5400 / 2.7 GHz
4gb
The graphics card was replaced a year or so ago and i am using an Nvidia Geforce 210
windows 7
If it is indeed the processor does anybody know some good resources for understanding the processor market today? The last time i really considered performance for computers processors were single core and all you had to do was look at mhz to determine power. It seems like doing this now isn't reliable as you have multi-cores and some multi-cores that exist have slower individual processors but the aggregate multiprocessor may be faster than another computer with fewer cores that are very fast.
