So I have a toshiba L455 satellite computer with a celeron core. I recently inserted a 4gig RAM chip to replace the 2 gig one that the computer originally had. I also tried dedicating more ram to my game using the java/cmd command. but no matter what I do, it still stays around 200-300MB, even though i have 2gigs dedicated to the game.

Sorry but your graphic card and processor isn't strong enough to play Minecraft. You will have to buy a new computer for a really great fps. I will list ways you can reduce lag.
Copy and paste "javaw -Xmx2048m -Xms1024m -jar C:"
(after the "C:" copy and paste your file path. Right click your Minecraft Launcher>Properties. Now you will see location. Copy and paste everything after "C:" with no spaces. Now that you have the code open notepad and copy and paste what you typed earlier. Save As>Name your file "bat.start". Now you will start Minecraft by double clicking that file.)
Task Manager
(Press "alt+ ctrl +delete". Now choose Task Manager. You will click the "processes" tab above the window. You'll see a list of .exe under Image Name. Look for "javaw". Right Click>Set Priority>High)
thats a bit sad to hear Rulep but thanks for telling me. I bought this computer a few years back and I had no idea I would want to play games like SWTOR and minecraft. my other computer (which i dont have easy access to) is a dual core 4gig rig so it can handle that stuff. Anyways thanks for your help, im probably getting a new computer this summer/fall, probably some kind of gaming rig that should be a nice change from this crappy thing.

I would strongly suggest getting a dedicated video card AMD/ATI or nvidia brand. You should find a decent computer for $450-$600
