It may be that Minecraft is running out of memory due to the HD texture pack. How much RAM do you have/have allocated and how large of resolution is the texture pack? i.e 32x32, 64x64, 128x128, or 256x256+?
Also, does it only happen with this texture pack?
We can move on from there once I get a tiny more info.
EDIT: Also it probably wouldn't hurt to run this test and post the results here.
