I have been playing minecraft for a long time and never had this problem before, I got this problem recently. The problem is that my minecraft just randomly freezes, I have installed optifine and that didn't fix my problem, I searched in google and in the minecraft forums but I still can't find a solution. I have tried a lot of things and still no solution.
But I think it's freezing because of my mouse, when I use the mouse, minecraft start freezes for 1 or 2 minutes and when it unfreezes... I it freezes again. But, when I use the mac's trackpad, minecraft will never freeze, but I am a total noob playing with the trackpad and I hate it. And when I play online, minecraft never freezes, even with the mouse, it works well, so it only freezes when I am playing off-line on my survival worlds. So if you have the solution, please answer.
I have the same problem. but for it's that it would even freeze with Magic trackpad.
What sucks is that I have not been able to connect to minecraft for a while.
So I can't test if a Online Playing would work or not.
Support of Mojang has 2 emails from me already, but they do not even bother to answer or give a ticket so you can see that they are working on the case!!!!
1.4.2 should not be called the "pretty scary update"
It should be called "1.4.2 Worst Update Ever"
if anyone comes along a solution for this problem, or if Mojang finally wakes up, I would be more than happy if he could post it here.
Ok an Update on the things happening.
Mojang has finally answered to my email, though the help given was a Joke. They say that their support is limited to accounting only and problems like the freezing one they we should look in the forums.
Ha ha nice one Mojang. Any way at least they answered.
Ok now for the problem itself.
I had the same issue as ChaosElemental. Means I could not log in, and my 1.4.2 would freeze all the time and not wake up anymore. Only a force quit from Apple menu would let me end minecraft.
I guess the OP had also the problem that he would not see the news screen. Instead he could see some message about "no route to host".
I am sitting in China, I am working on Astril VPN. And I found today this seems to be the problem.
In case that you have a VPN software running try to quit it and then try to run minecraft.
I am not talking abut just turing the VPN Software off, you really must quit it completely.
For me it worked, I could see the news screen, login and play online. Also I was able to do a Forced Update, after which all sound issues I had before with the 1.4.2. where solved.
I just played for about an hour in survival mode without crashing. It seems it's really the damn VPN Software, which is strange as I have played minecraft for over a Year with the software running.
Does it freeze at the same location or certain locations on the map? Are there a bunch of spiders nearby since they seem to cause lag on my computer?
If I went to a certain location on the map my computer would totally freeze up and I would have to turn the power off and restart. Setting the render distance to tiny, turning off particles and changing other settings allowed me to get to this area without the computer freezing.
After digging down I found an area with multiple abandoned mineshafts and mutiple canyons in this area. Lighting up this area to prevent mob spawning stopped the crashes.
I am using a Macbook Pro with the latest Mac OS and the latest released version of Minecraft.
"Hurr durr, I'm stupid because I have a pc" - is exactly what you're saying there.
If you've never even tried working on a Mac before, don't bother posting such crap. I have worked on pc many years before I was introduced to Macs. And it didn't take long for me to throw that pc out and buy a Mac. Yes, it's more expensive, but it's still going strong, no problems at all. Unlike pcs, which need a complete system overhaul every 6 months. And if your pc is older than a year, you have to get a new one. Oh, and the viruses and popups and having to install new video drivers every other day. I, for one, am very glad I no longer have to use that piece of crap anymore.
Whoa dude, relax.
You just don't know how to properly maintain a PC or you're not that kind of person who likes to customize and work with their machine more. I admit that Macs do run smoother and can be very helpful if you just want things to "work." They just lack the range of compatibility with most programs that the Windows OS has.
I was simply making a small joke because I prefer PC to Mac. I have nothing against it and respect the fact that you like it.
Also, I have an iPhone so I have no problem with Apple.
