I like to play PVP maps like the Minecraft hunger games and there is lava pools scattered throughout the map, and when I run by one I don't lag, but when i get a certain distance away from it (10 blocks per say) I will get this HUGE lag spike and causes me to die 90% of the time.
I don't know if it's the sound or what, but I can tell you it is very frustrating trying to play when lava is the only issue of my lag...
Please help... It would help if you could give very detailed instructions on how to fix it.
Like I said before. Everything else runs fantastic but when I get near lava it lags. The only mod I use is optifine and that INCREASES your FPS. At first I thought it was the animation, but it turns out it wasn't. If ANYONE can help me with this issue i would be forever grateful.

Particles, maybe.
Possibly if it's doing too many animations at once.
I hate to pump a near month-old topic, but I also have this issue, no matter what graphics setting I'm on; or render distance. The sound file from lava makes my game lag incredibly hard.
I have a quad core Q9500 and a 9600GT with 4GB of ram, but lava is the only thing that makes me lag other then HUNDREDS of mobs.

My computer isn't near that powerful, but I, too, have been having this issue (only since one of the 1.4 updates, like 1.4.5 or so.)
It doesn't seem to be related to particles or any other effect since, upon turning all of the effects down to nothing/minimal, lava still causes the lag.
