I'm new to minecraft. Had the game for about 4 months and really like it. But one thing idk how to do is get mods and texture packs. I have windows 8 and have no idea what I need to download before I can install mods or texture packs. Can I have some help?

Okay, first you need winrar. Press to the search bar (not the web browser, your pc's search bar) and type run. type %appdata%, go to roaming, click .minecraft, click bin, and open minecraft.jar with winrar (right click minecraft.jar. also make sure your not opening minecraft-1.4.6.jar) delete meta-inf. Install your mod. (when installing forge , dont delete the meta-inf forge makes it doesnt prevent mods. i also recommend installing some mods in the mods folder its faster and easier to uninstall

To get a texture pack, go to a minecraft site, and click download on the texture pack ( keep minecraft open in a different tab) Then save it to desktop. When it has downloaded go on the the minecraft tab and onto texture packs. Click "open texture pack folder" and drag the saved texture pack to the folder. FINALLY AFTER TONS OF WORK, play with the texture pack

To install a texture pack
Go to planetminecraft or here
Download the texture pack file
Type in %appdata% if windows vista or windows 7
If windows 8
Go to your username
Roaming folder
Appdata folder
Then .minecraft folder
Then texturepacks folder
Drag your zip or rar file to that folder
You're done
Mods
Go to here or planetminecraft
Download the zip file or rar file it requires 7 zip or winrar
Go to your username
Appdata folder
Roaming folder
.minecraft folder
Bin folder
Open the minecraft.jar not like minecraft-181-beta-jar nope not the one
Use winrar or 7 zip
Drag the files to the minecraft.jar

I forgot also delete META-INF in the minecraft.jar

Ive gotten to the part in the bin folder but don't know how tp drag the files to mincraft.jar (im using WinRAR)

Put all of the files contents into a folder then drag it in the minecraft.jar

Well i have a MacBook PRO but i know how to install texture packs on Windows download the pack then open minecraft click mods and texture packs click the open texture pack folder here, drag the file in there then... BOOM! its there!Well i should work..,.
