I would like to install several mods to enhance the visuals of my gameplay; however, I don't seem to know how to do it correctly, no matter how often I go back and read through the installer information for each mod. If one works, the others won't. I'm very confused. I have no other mods installed, as I have never gotten a mod to work, only texture packs.
I have fully updated 1.4.7, and I would like to install:
MC Patcher and Magic Launcher have been tried, as well as trying to install everything by hand without software assistance.
As of yet, I have not gotten the Water Shader to work, nor have I gotten Dynamic lights to work. Forge installed, Optifine did not either.
(Also, if you happen to have any good recommendations as to aesthetic mods, please feel free to let me know your favorites. Hopefully by the end of this I'll have some understanding of what I was doing wrong!)

I did them all by hand at first, then I tried MC Patcher to install them, then I tried Magic Launcher. Every time I used an piece of software to do it, I reinstalled to Vanilla to have a fresh based to install onto.
Thank you so much for letting me know what wouldn't work-- It helped me out quite a lot.
I decided to install Forge, then Dynamic Lights. Those two together work nicely. I am about to add the water shaders and Seus, just to see if they all play nicely.
Truthfully, I haven't found a way to have Optifine work on my machine. Every time I install it, it goes straight to a black screen- I had this same problem with Forge until I removed the Mojang files from META-INF, but it didn't fix it with Optifine for some reason.
The water shaders don't seem to want to play well. I think you're right in that I'm probably just going to have to give them up.
EDIT: I started from scratch today. This is what I did: I added the files from Forge (removing the Mojang Files), added the files for Dynamic lights, then added the Water Shaders (there's a 1.4.7 version, as well as part of why it didn't work before for me is because I kept naming the Shader folder Shaders).
So far everything is working, but you're absolutely right about the water shaders being very, very buggy. Apparently they glitch and you can see the game rendering subterrain if you're too high off the water.

Dynamic Lights
Water Shader v5
Optifine 1.4.6 (I didn't see an update for 1.4.7?)
Forge
