problem: solved. i ended up having to revert to 1.4.7 before the new snapshots started coming out. everything is working as normal.

now, i've updated my graphics drivers and know for a certain what i'm trying to swap to is low enough resolution since i was using it just yesterday. i even tested it on a 16x16 and it still froze. if you need any further details let me know and i'll gladly give them. thank you!
oh yes, i've also tried using optifine as was suggested in another thread.
i removed all mods and tested it. the problem went away but happened again right after i loaded forge. i just thought that might help.
