My modded client includes the following:
Minecraft 1.4.6, Forge 6.5.0, Reis Minimap, Optifine, Single Player Commands, Dynamic Lights, and a mod I created myself
The game loads up to the main menu just fine, but when I load up a world there is a 1/2 chance that the game will freeze with the screen showing "Downloading terrain". The game does not crash, and will stay in that screen until I shut the program down.
I play with a texture pack, but I switched to vanilla and nothing changed.
My console reads as follows
NOT A CRASH CONSOLE. I play with a console open at all times, this is not a crashlog
I put [Timestamp] in place of the actual timestamp because it is a waste of characters and space
...
[Timestamp] [INFO] [STDOUT] setupTexture: "%blur%/misc/vignette", id: 29
[Timestamp] [INFO] [STDOUT] setupTexture: "/gui/icons.png", id: 30
[Timestamp] [INFO] [STDOUT] Class not present: LightCache
[Timestamp] [INFO] [STDOUT] setupTexture: "%blur%/misc/glint.png", id: 23
This is where it stops. There is nothing after it.
/misc/glint is the enchantment "texture". That is, the purple shininess My game seems to be freezing when it loads (and blurs) that image, OR just after it. When the game does not crash, the next thing the console does is change in-game commands to the SPC version.
It's possible that SPC is the problem, but doesn't have time to put anything in the console. Without a crash log I can't exactly say.
It's not an awful problem, really. I just have to load the game a few times to get in, which is but a few minute inconvenience in return for hours of play-time, so I'm NOT going to go about getting a clean jar and reinstalling my mods one by one or anything that isn't just a click-and-fix.
If anyone knows what is freezing the game and has any tips to offer up, feel free. If not, this isn't a huge problem anyways.
(Actually just by typing this, I'm almost certain SPC is to blame. This is the first time I've laid out all my clues in front of me, so I'm only now putting them together)
as you think SPC might be the issue have you tried taking it out and seeing if the game loads without it?
SPC is an in-jar mod. You can't drag-and-drop it like ModLoader / Forge mods. I think I have a few Jar backups from before installing some other stuff, but this really isn't that much of an issue.
Also, I like SPC, so if I prove that it's the problem-child I'll just end up leaving it in and dealing with it anyways. Oh well
