Ok i just got MC recently and im really enjoying it, but my problem is that its not performing as good as it should. I have an Intel i5 cpu at 3.4 ghz and a Nvidea GTX 660 over clocked graphics card and can run games like Guild Wars 2 and Starcraft 2 at max graphics with 60+ fps.
With MC however...im getting 40 fps or worse. I'm using a 32 px texture pack, optifine, and the SEUS shaders. With all of that turned on and maxed it hovers in the 15 to 30 fps range. I can improve that some if I don't use bump maps with the shaders.
Now with the default unmodded MC i can get to about 80 fps, and modded or unmodded i play in full screen at 1920 x 1080. I have seen people with a worse computer than mine running unmodded MC with like 500 fps and I can't figure out why mine is running so badly. Is it just because its running in Java?
Oh and ive given Java 4 gb of ram to use as well and that only helps slightly. I am also using Windows 8 64 bit and the 64 bit version of Java.
This may be your problem. There seems to be a lot of talk about Minecraft not working with Windows 8 at all, let alone getting good performance. I could be wrong, it's just what I've been hearing.
