i recommend feed-the-beast mod pack ! its easy launcher that will install your mods for you. search for it on google you can also pm mee.

Forgive me for I know very little to nothing about MC. My son has Autism and although he can hardly speak, he is an avid MC player. You would not believe the stuff he makes in creative mode. It's like art, and we've thought about putting some of his creations on youtube. Maybe later.
For his 11th birthday, he's asking for these mods - forgive me if some of these are incorrect as it is difficult to understand what my son is asking for:
Cat mod (something with cats or kittens)
Elemental Creepers
Elemental Diamond mod?
Instant Structures
Super Mario
Some kind of mod to get rid of bats - no idea what he is talking about. He's bothered by bats, LOL
Aether mod
Realistic BMW car
Spider Queen
A-Bomb mod?
Bacteria mod
Sponge mod
Train mod
Custom Maps
Some kind of airplane mod

Some of those mods are not compatible with others. For example, the Aether mod is basically standalone, most things can't be installed with it.
For most of those you'll have to downgrade MineCraft to a lower version, probably 1.2.5ish. This can be done with MCNostalgia.
For installing mods, make sure you download the 1.2.5 Version, or whatever version you patched to. I suggest using either MultiMC or MagicLauncher.

But anyways, some of those mods you listed are not compatible with each other.
What I would do, is download Magic Launcher which can be found here: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/939149-launcher-magic-launcher-100-mods-options-news/
Then download the mods he would like.
Simply put them on your son's desktop.
Next, Click on the magic launcher and go to the settings.
Click "add"
Next select all of the mods
Then remove the ones that have error messages such as 'Not Compatible' , needs 'Mod Loader' and others.
I hope this helps you and tell your son happy birthday from the Minecraft community.

As long as you are finding the mods on these forums, there isn't much risk of virus from adfly. Just avoid downloading any mods that are brand new, let more experienced people download them and check if the code is legit first. The community here is pretty quick on finding malicious mods and pointing it out to the staff to have it removed from the forums.
Some of the third party sites that host mods I don't trust as much. Even if there are no virus on those sites, many of the mods are outdated (but listed as updated) and have improper install instructions.
The threads on the forums here, are maintained by the mod developer, so always have the proper install instructions, version info, etc.

Just avoid downloading any mods that are brand new, let more experienced people download them and check if the code is legit first. The community here is pretty quick on finding malicious mods and pointing it out to the staff to have it removed from the forums.
