Ok so basically, before i knew about the magic launcher, i tried modifying my minecraft.jar file so that i could get some mods to work. I made a copy of the original file before i started messing around with it. basically, after a lot of hassle, i realized that i messed up the jar file and just redownloaded the game. but, i ended up losing my worlds :c I still have that minecraft jar file in addition to the new one i have installed for the game. Is there ANY way that i can restore those worlds? They were kind of my first and second worlds for the entire game so it would mean a lot to me if i could get them back. thanks.
ok i found the saves thing you were talking about (thanks btw) so how do I "restore" my worlds from that without accidentally deleting the worlds i have now. I found the earliest save and it MIGHT have my worlds. but i dont want to risk destroying anything i have placed. so if you can, can you please lead me through this step by step again >< thanks. i would really appreciate it
move your current minecraft jar to another location? then download the new one in the roaming folder and then transfer your saves from the other minecraft jar folder into the new (but older) minecraft jar folder.
wait...so what do you mean download the new one in the roaming folder? o_O do i transfer my super old one into the roaming and put my current one somewhere else? and then transfer all the worlds i have now into the older minecraft jar folder, which might or might not contain my old worlds? XD i feel like im confusing myself

You can use windows to recover them if they got caught in a windows snapshot.
Right click on the 'saves' folder and choose properties.
Choose the 'Previous Versions' Tab
Look to see if there is a save from before you deleted them.
The image below is an old image I had showing it for the entire .minecraft folder, but it works for the saves directory too.
