Ok so here is my problem: In a world that I've been using for a while (about 1 month) I have an average FPS of 23 - 40. But on this one server that I play on (It has about 77 people on at once) I get about 100 - 180 FPS. Can someone explain what is happening and give me any advice about increasing FPS (I use Optifine and I play on Shot +16 render distance, I have 4 GB of ram with 2 GB allocated to Minecraft, also I use a Toshiba laptop.)
When you are playing on the server your computer has to do a lot less.
The server is doing most of the calculations, and just telling your client what to show you.
When you play single player, your computer has to do the work that the server was doing. Plus still handle what it shows you.

That makes sense! Thanks!
