I have 5GB of ram running into minecraft and 6 - 5 GB running into java on my 8 GB computer. I also am running 64bit java... but it still lags. I can hardly play wihtout optifine and I have to have my vew distance on short. On top of that, I can't play tekkit with the sphax texture pack, too much lag... can anyone help?
computer info: HP 2000 Notebook - Windows 8
Processor - AMD E1 - 1200 APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics 1.40 GHz
Ram - 8GB (7.60GB usable)
System Type - 64-bit Operating System, x64 - based processor
You've allocated too much memory to minecraft. 350MB ram allocated will run minecraft fine. Anything over 2gb will usually lag, sometimes making it 350mb will make it run very well.
EDIT: This is from the creator of optifine on the magic launcher thread.
Your computer looks great. do you think you may have a virus?
and what is considered "way too much lag to you"
if you think you have a virus got o system configuration then go to the start up tab. this will show you programs that start up when your computer starts. i would recommend searching for anything that has an uknown creator and anything with a suspiciiuse name (prety much anything with a bunch of random numbers and letters). after you uncheak that go to program files, search for thje name, delete it, and then clear your recycling bin
I'm pretty sure i dont have a virus becuase I just got the computer at christmas time, and its not a ton of lag! but I can't play minecraft on anything but short, and i cant use the sphax texture pack for tekkit because it starts skipping. I can walk around for about 3 secconds then it will lag and then it will keep doing it over and over. Sometimes the sound will skip along with my screen like a CD would when skratched. When it lags the most is when I join the hunger games server... my fps drops to like 4 when im in the lobby area, but my friends can play perfectly fine.
That CPU is pretty slow, it's only 1400 MHz dual core
That's quite a bit under the recommended 2.6 GHz, it's nearly half the recommended.
Minecraft is very CPU dependent, much more so then it is memory dependent.

It will never play minecraft well, you can try the tips in this thread: http://www.minecraft...now-with-video/
To try and get the best performance that you can out of that laptop.
I figured it was my processor but can i replace it with a new one or is that not capable on my laptop? I know people who work with computers and know how to replace them.

99% of laptops are incapable of being upgraded. The ones that can cost thousands of dollars as they are custom built.
