I am currently having a problem with my graphics card, Minecraft does not seem to be running off of it.
I appear to be obtaining a lower FPS with Optifine then I should be. With Optifine installed, I only get around 60 FPS which is much lower then expected with the following computer parts:
An additional problem I am having is that with the GLSL Shaders mod for MC 1.4.6 installed, I get a black screen. Not a crash nor a freeze, its just a black screen. This is related to Minecraft not running off of the graphics card.
I have tried running Left 4 Dead 2 and obtained 150+ FPS which is quite a difference compared to the 60 FPS from Minecraft.
I have allocated 4GB RAM to Minecraft but it does not appear to help. I am suspecting that the graphics card is not detecting Minecraft.
I have also tried going into the AMD Vision Engine Control Center and applying 3D application settings to Minecraft.exe and Javaw.exe but it does not do anything.
My operating system is Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-Bit and i have both Java 32-bit and Java 64-bit installed. (Java 7 Update 10)
Does anyone have an idea to how to fix this problem?
I'm no computer expert, but what refresh rate is your monitor? If it is 60 Hz (which most monitors are), you may have Vsync on, which is an option on OptiFine.
Shaders is a very unoptimized mod, and sometimes won't even work on the best PCs. The best thing you could do is see if you can update drivers for your card. Go to AMD Catalyst (You installed that using the CD that came with your GPU, right?) and on the bottom left is an "information" tab check for any software and driver updates.
Also install MSI afterburner from the CD and update that too. Your GPU is probably smart enough to only give Minecraft enough power to run at 60fps, thus reducing the clock speed of the GPU. That is intended, as any more than 60fps is overkill, unneeded, and will kill your GPU more quickly.
My 7950 runs vanilla minecraft at 60-80 fps and heavily modded minecraft on a 256 pack at the same 60-80 fps.

All parts were bought from NCIX.
