Multi MC worked beautifully! IndustrialCraft, BuildCraft, and AdditionalPipes, and Forestry. Thank you very much!
But whenever I try to download RailCraft, it downloads a folder rather than a .jar file and whenever I make it a .zip then a .jar file, it crashes and gives me this report:

--- END ERROR REPORT a7e7c32a ----------
Not sure why you are having trouble downloading railcraft. Make sure you are gettting the latest version from the railcraft wiki: http://railcraft.wikispaces.com/ You can also try using a different web browser, some don't handle jar files well.
However the error doesn't look related to railcraft at all, it looks like an ID conflict between buildcraft and forestry.
You'd need to open the config file for one of those two and change the conflicting ID to something else. (between 256-4095)
I know this is going to sound stupid, but can you link me to anywhere that can show me how to change the conflicting IDs? I've never tried this before. Will save me time.
Also, even if RailCraft isn't the one giving me the problems all of the rails that RailCraft install don't show up in my Creative inventory when I run the game.
By the way, thank you VERY much for your help.
EDIT: Tried downloading RailCraft again, and it downloads a zip file. Whenever I place that zip file into my MineCraft using Multi MC, it shows the version and everything but I still get the same crash. (I used Firefox instead of Safari to get the zip)
DOUBLE EDIT: Whenever I removed Forestry from my mods, everything worked correctly. So I'm guessing all I need to do is edit my conflicting item IDs, looking that up now.
UPDATE: I re-read the error and saw a problem with additionalpipes, so when I removed that everything worked perfectly. Going to try to download a different version of AdditionalPipes from the BC website now and see if I can fix it.Didn't work, I get the crash whenever I try to load it now. Still need that link for how to fix conflicting IDs if you have it!
This video is pretty good. It's a bit dated.
The range you can use now is 256-4095
You might also want to consider using the FTB mod pack, it has most of the mods you seem to be trying to use. It takes all the hassle out of it for you. http://feed-the-beast.com/
I am using an offline Multi MC on another computer so I can play with my friends. In order to have FTB you have to have two MineCraft accounts. I haven't bought my second one yet.
As for these item IDs, still having a problem finding a blank one, but I'll update as I try. It's a shoot and miss thing and using NEI hasn't helped as it won't show the Unused Item IDs for some reason.
Understand that I only need one copy of MineCraft and he wants to play so I let him, I'm willing to learn how to install the mods myself anyways. I enjoy learning, and anyways, the more I know the more able I am to help on the forum.
Thank you very much for the information, I will try it now. I will update accordingly.
Ya I understand about wanting to do it yourself, I use most of the mods in FTB, and still do the install myself, tho I am using MultiMC now, just to easy to go back to completely manual.
I didn't have time before, but here is the way to get NEI to dump the IDs.
It dumps the file into the minecraft folder, time stamped. Mine was named 'IDMap dump 17-12-2012 at 21.17.43.269.txt' based on the time when I made mine.
I've watched video after video and read multiple guides, but still cannot seem to get my client modded!
I'm on a MacBook Pro....that's why I think it won't work right.
Any suggestions or help?
Post the FML-Log 0.txt (Or all for the same tipe), the IC2 and Buildcraft install in the MODS folder.
Woah woah!

Retired StaffWatch the 3 videos in the MultiMC thread.
Use multiMC to downgrade to 1.4.2, you can also use it to download the correct forge version (355).
But whenever I try to download RailCraft, it downloads a folder rather than a .jar file and whenever I make it a .zip then a .jar file, it crashes and gives me this report:

Retired StaffFTB doesn't require a new minecraft account, but yes both you and your friend would need accounts. Your friend should have an account as is anyway.
Thank you very much for the information, I will try it now. I will update accordingly.
