I have installed everything into the minecraft.jar file, but when i start the game, I don't see an area to select the mods. I have always had low luck with these mod loaders. Can someone plz tell me what is going on.
FML has a button on the frontend that allows you to see what mods you have installed, but Risu's ML unfortunately gives you no indication that it or any mods are installed until you get in-game and find if any of the items or features have been implemented
If BTW is installed, youll know its working because upon spawning into the world youll have a lil message in the chat from the mod saying "BTW x.xx"
Oh, I see. Well, my mods must not be working then. All of them. Any of them. Do I need to extract them out of the rar files?
if you dropped the archives themselves in, theres your problem.
Also, only some mods need to go into the jar (for a lot of people its only ML and TMI), others go into the mods folder created in the minecraft directory after successfully running MC with ML installed. Double check the install instructions for whether they go in the jar or in the mods folder. as a rule of thumb (confirm with the mods install instructions) jar mods: extract the items out of the archive (rar, zip) into the jar. mod folder mods: simply place the archive (unextracted) into the mods folder.
again, the specifics can be different for each mod, so double check.

Do I need to create a mod folder in the minecraft.jar? Cuz I still can't get the mods to work...
no, not in the jar. First, start with a clean minecraft setup. after getting a fresh jar open it up, and drop the modloader files into the jar. delete META-INF inside the jar. Run minecraft. if it starts up properly, there should be a folder titled "mods" within the main minecraft folder

Check the installation instructions of the mods. if they say to go into the jar, extract the contents of the mod zip into the jar. otherwise its usually a case of simply placing the zip into the mods folder
