Hey guys, BenOngAlive here, and recently I've been encountering a problem that has been significantly hampering my enjoyment of Minecraft.
In short, Minecraft has been quitting unexpectedly a lot on me lately. By quitting unexpectedly, I'm referring to that message on Mac OS X where the Minecraft window vanishes without trace, leaving the message "Minecraft quit unexpectedly" on a small window on the screen.
The odd thing about when my Minecraft crashes/quits for apparently no reason is that it only crashes under very specific circumstances. Specifically, it only crashes when I play custom maps (CTM, Adventure, etc.) and it only crashes when I enter specific areas of certain custom maps. When this happens, I often delete that custom map in dissatisfaction, crestfallen that I won't be able to properly play through it.
My question to the community is if anyone has experienced similar problems on their Mac with Minecraft (I did check the discussion thread as well as the client threads to see if there were any similar threads, but didn't find any.) And also, what could be causing the unexpected crashes in such specific maps? Is it the way that the chunks in those maps are rendered that cause the Singleplayer server to struggle immensely?
Some details:
I have a decent (but not overpowered) iMac w/ 8GB of RAM and a 2.8GHz processor. Minecraft is running on a healthy amount of memory, and I can run it at an FPS of around 100+ with Optifine.
I have no mods installed except Optifine.
Examples of custom maps where Minecraft constantly crashes for me (though only in specific areas) are Razul by Block_Fortress and From Ashes (a CTM map) by the Gustavo Entertainment Team. I'm not sure that helps the case, though I thought it would be useful to cite some examples.
