So I tried installing modloader (which apparently a newb should not do since i have no idea how to do it) and now I get crash reports. This is the report I got:

hmmm have you tride force update in the login screan/tab?
Well, when I tried installing the mod, the reports began showing up. So I deleted whatever was in the mod files and now the reports are still here.
And yes I tried force updating, it didn't work.
That alone told me that Minecraft might have thought you were trying to do something that wasn't actually in the game, yet it still attempted due to the installation attempt. I'll give you a walkthrough on how to install ModLoader properly so you don't have this again:
Step 1: Get WinRAR, 7zip, or any other archiving program.
Step 2: Download the correct version of ModLoader (If you run 1.4.5, get the 1.4.5 version)
Step 3: Open the file you downloaded with the archiving program.
Step 4: Click extract, and extract it to a NEW folder with ONLY the ModLoader files in it.
Step 5: Open your minecraft.jar with the archiving program.
Step 6: Click "Add"
Step 7: Navigate to the folder with the ModLoader files in it.
Step 8: Highlight everything inside, click ok, click ok again.
Step 9: Delete META_INF.
Step 10: Close minecraft.jar and open Minecraft.
