Sorry if this has been asked and answered or if I am posting in the wrong place.
Minecraft freezes on me all the time for anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or so. And rendering the world around me can be slow.
Minecraft 1.4.5 but this happened on previous version too.
I am playing with the setting at their max (far) but I would think I should be able to. Typically I get ~30fps (which I think is pretty low for my system).
Specs:
Mac Pro (early 2009) 2 x 2.26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon, 24GB 1066 Mhz DDR3 EEC Ram, ATI Radeon HD 4870 512 MB. OS X 10.7.5
No mods. Although I was toying with the idea of moving to some hi-def tiles. But with the problems I am experiencing I cant justify it.
When speaking about chunks I think you are referring to un-rendered space. well it happens when I am in previously visited and not visited areas. So I dont think it has anything to do with generating new space.
The freezing and fps drop happens whether or not I have been in game for a long time or not... Same close proximity area or not.
***sorry for the n00b speak!!!
I'm not crazy right?!?!? with my setup I should be able to run 30 separate instances of minecraft full bore with no problem.
Thanks for the suggestion. I installed the OptiFine HD D3 mod and my fps have doubled to ~60. Also in my VERY limited game time since installing the mod; no more freezing.
This seems to be a good workaround but I am still confused as to why my 2 x 2.26 Ghz quadcore xeon MAc Pro with 24GB RAM and a 512MB ATI videocard is not blazing fast.
If anyone can shed some light on this for me it would be greatly appreciated.
Again thanks everyone for you help and suggestions. Minecraft is now enjoyable.
