Okay, lately, about since the official release of 1.4.2, chunks load really slow for me, in that they don't load until I'm directly next to them. I know this is a universal bug in 1.4, as I've seen it happen to famous YouTube Minecraftians' 1.4 videos. Anyway... I believe I have come across a downright scary glitch of some sort... I live in a desert in my main Creative world, I live next to a downright tiny village, in a huge, amazing, decked-out fortress, and I do NOT want to abort my life in this world due to what I have discovered...
Just recently I installed a new Sound Pack mod, Audiotori, and I had some trouble installing Modloader. I installed it correctly but Minecraft crashed, and I learned I simply needed to empty my previously generated Mods folder. So I did... I installed the mod I wanted successfully... and while I was troubleshooting for the problem, the guy who helped me out with it initially said "Quick! Empty your mods folder! BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE!"
I don't know why it was so urgent, but as soon as I joined my main world after the mod was successfully installed, I discovered an entire chunk in my Desert biome has been replaced...
My desert is still officially registered as a Desert biome, but as soon as I enter the chunk, my F3 screen registers a Taiga. I'm not really upset about this random chunk appearing out of nowhere, I'm mainly afraid that the same may happen to other chunks, such as my house.
So is this a problem I should worry about or just caused by the error in installing Modloader, and therefore will not occur again?
(Also if you're wondering, the slime is from a nearby Swamp. :b )
Well. Something went wrong while it was saving that chunk.
Shut down the game improperly can do it, hitting the red X, instead of using quit.
I had a world get pretty messed up once when I lost power while playing.
It could even be a bad sector on your hard drive, or a bad spot in the memory of your computer. (don't get to worked up about these, just saying that there are many possibilities)
It was most likely just a hiccup in the save process.
I believe you can use MCedit to fix it if you really want to, but I can't help with that. I haven't used it much myself.
