After logging in, Minecraft gives me this error message:
Bad video card drivers!
-----------------------
Minecraft was unable to start because it failed to find an accelerated OpenGL mode.
This can usually be fixed by updating the video card drivers.

--- END ERROR REPORT 969163da ----------
This occurred after uninstalling Zonealarm Extreme Security and Ad Aware and replacing it with Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE).
Which, in turn, followed a full system event (slowed to a crawl without crashing; Minecraft stopped entirely) while I was playing the game.
I have so far, in roughly this order:
performed a full scan of the C drive with MSE
updated my driver
reinstalled Minecraft
opened Minecraft with the MSE firewall off
updated Java for the heck of it
done a ton of Google research which seems to be going nowhere.
I'm running Windows XP Professional service pack 3 on a Lenovo Thinkpad R61i.
Minecraft seems to be the only thing suffering. It has Modloader and for the sake of simplicity, nothing else.
I used the device manager which "could not find a better match for your hardware than the software you currently have installed." (Mobile Intel® 965 Express Chipset Family, in case it comes up.) Went to the Intel site and manually updated it.
I don't know if it's the security software, but that's the only change I've made. I've Googled the heck out of this issue and even it's running out of ideas.
EDIT: To clarify, Minecraft has been running on this computer with this video card for a year or so. It was only after the events listed above that it stopped. Minecraft stopped while I was playing and it hasn't started since. The Firewall exchange was made to better the performance of the computer (which it has), but I'm not certain it's at all connected to this problem with Minecraft.

Minecraft has not had this problem before now.

Retired StaffI've had other people with the 965 that couldn't get the default launcher to work, but MultiMC worked fine..
I'm not sure why it would start with the change of security software, but give it a shot.
