64bit Minecraft
Only mod installed: OptiFine HD B3 Ultra for Minecraft 1.3.2
Render Distance is set to Extreme and most (or all) quality details are set to Fancy.
Advanced OpenGL is set to Fancy.
Performance is set to Max FPS.
Minecraft's FPS fluctuates between 30 and 40 fps.
GPU usage is around 70%, but the GPU Clock Speed is around 100MHz lower than the max Clock.
CPU usage is under 30% and clocked to 3.9GHz (Turbo).
Does Extreme Render Distance make MC preform that badly or did I configure/do something wrong?
Extreme render distance by nature will make MC lag due to the amount of chunks loading.
Correct and incorrect why? because most of the computer with those kind of specs can handle extreme distance is a lot of resource needed but it can handle.
i can run with extreme distance and using 128x128 texture packs and i get a decent 30fps with recording.
Try setting AdvGL to Fast and graphics to fast since you using default texture you won't get any difference(notable) if using fast or fancy , the water and the grass are the most notable ones.

Advanced OpenGL set to off, fast or fancy barely affected the performance. The maximum gain or loss was about 3 fps. Is there anyway I can get MC to run at 60fps with extreme render distance?
You can go to the nvidia control panel and set the 3d settings to:
Triple buffering: on
vertical sync on : besides you can't run more than 60hz refresh if your tv or monitor can't accept more than that.
setting that and using optifine to Multi core chunk loading can help you i use a 512x512 texture at 30 fps stable not spikes with extreme distance. and i have worst specs than your pc

Triple buffering, vsync, and multi core didn't really help the FPS. Got any other tips?
And your CPU is a LOT better than mine, lol.

My computer can run BF3 Ultra @ 1080 with a constant FPS of 60... I found it weird that I couldn't get a stable 40 fps in MC...
