Okay...so im a Mac user, run on a MBP 15" 2011 and this game runs like a dream on max settings with Sphax 128x texture pack. Even with a video recorder it runs pretty well with no lag. The problem is the damned video recorders seem to glitch up or be out of sync every time.
So I switch to the windows side and download minecraft and modloader and optifine and a screen recorder...this time however I get like 12 frames per second during recording and 20 frames when just playing minecraft. Even worse, I set all the settings down and it jumps to lowest 35fps. This would be great, but every time I even touch a block the game lags terribly and there is a very visible jerk in the game right as the block breaks. This is unbearable and video catches it too. This happens whether im recording or not (I unload the recorder when not recording, and i dont have anything open)
To recap, on mac I run this game on max settings with sphax 128x texture pack and a video recorder (i tried snapz pro). On the same computer in windows (which runs other games max settings just like the mac os side) minecraft runs on the lowest settings, default texture pack with optifine, and I reduced the resolution to 1280x800 and lags no matter what I do. This is with or without the video recorder.
What is going on here? Also I use Dxtory paid version when on windows.oh and i use magiclauncher to allocate 2 gigabytes of RAM, and i use 64bit java
There is alot of things wrong in this picture.
Mac's use 32-bit color therefore use 32-bit java
Never use MagicLauncher
Allocating more memory makes minecraft run slower, you should allocate not more than 512mb/0.5G
Also, do you have drivers for your video card? Winblows has things called "drivers" that allow your video crad to work. Winblows may not be using your video crad, it may just be using winblow's default graphics.
okay so after fiddling with controls it seems i found the bottlenecks...without changing java, removing magiclauncher, (changed memory to 900 for now just to see because it reached 480mb somehow a while ago and it wasnt exactly an intensive scene so...), and already had updated drivers. Trust me, i am not a purebreed mac user, i know windows
I guess i cant really pinpoint what I did to fix it (it was all done within minecraft with the optifine settings and im now running on highest settings once again) but the windows version is actually running faster than the mac version now with the same settings and running video recorder. (24 with mac and snapZ, and 35 with windows and dxtory)
If anyone else is having issues with getting a good framerate while video recording and knows their computer is good, maybe i can show you what I did to fix it.
Thanks for the suggestions Ramo

Hope this helps.
