You need a steel pickaxe.
Smelt in with and get to make a pickaxe out of it.
lol i could have sworn i was getting them with a stone pick.... im probably mistaken though
Im trying to help a friend if any one knows how to fix

Hey everybody I'm looking for some sort of solution to my control issues in minecraft. While playing both single player and multi-player my controls have a tendency to stick. What I mean by this is if for example I am walking forward or mining when I take my fingers of those controls the action continues. I've uninstalled and reinstalled it a few times but that has not fixed the issue. If anyone has had this problem and was able to fix it I need some help. Or if you have any ideas on what could be causing the problem that would also be appreciated.
I think that there have been so many recent posts about people not getting their accounts that it needs to be mentioned in the FAQ.
The short term solution I know of is getting a friend to log in on your computer, then disconnecting from the internet everytime you play, it will work fine, you just can't update. Meaning no Halloween :/

New thread time!!
<.<
In all seriousness, this seems like it would supersede "ZOMG USE SEARCH U NUB!" in terms of Frequently Asked Questions that need answering.
I'm having trouble and need help, but digging through forum trash by hand takes time I simply don't have, unless there's some way to pay the bills with manual forum filtering.
On that topic, has anyone seen a thread on Java Virtual Machine start-up errors?
Ok so I'm new to the forums and am having a problem in game. I've tried using the Search function on the forums but it's telling me I'm not allowed or something like that so I'll ask it here. I play this game on two different computers. When playing on the computer away from home that has no graphics card and is only integrated graphics the frame rate is good with fog turned on some but when I play it at home on my better computer I have problems. It's not that it lags but the opposite. I make sure I have the frame rate limited and I usually get around 30 fps when set to fast but my character seems to move around the map at a super speed and am able to harvest/gather from blocks very quickly too. It's quite annoying since it pretty much makes it unplayable at home. When away from home on the crappy PC my character moves around normally and I'm able to play just fine. I've updated my drivers for my graphics card, reinstalled the game, tried the different fog settings but nothing seems to change it. Any ideas? Thanks for any help.
Hey i have my own Minecraft server and i try to keep it grief free but the past 2 days i can't /undo myself or anyone does anyone know what the problem is?
Thought I would post this as people have been having trouble with it.
Problem: Game crashes when enabling sound
Fix: Right click on my computer, go to manage. From there go to Device Manager and go to Sound, video, game controllers. Right click and disable any drivers that are not your primary sound drivers or anything that does not look like it belongs. Programs like Tunebite and Melody Can install drivers that cause Minecraft to crash upon enabling sound.
isn't there a key of the block bitmaps? because I cant tell which bitmap belongs to which bolck side and type.
oh and i almost forgot, is there a way to make your own mobs yet? (i hope they did make it so because that would make the Alpha single player more crazy and even more fun.)

Can anyone sssspare ssssome Gunpowder? it wassss taken from me thissss morning... CURSSSSE YOU SSSSTEVE!!! Sssseeya folkssss
I recently just installed a minecraft texture pack which i later found caused me some problems, i deleted the contents and got minecraft to work, but i can't delete the actual .zip folder although i already switched to default textures.
I got into the game, and i logged in, it loaded for a while, the screen went black for ten seconds and then it displayed this:
Bad video card drivers!
-----------------------
Minecraft was unable to start because it failed to find an accelerated OpenGL mode.
This can usually be fixed by updating the video card drivers.

As I was going to download minecraft after it went corrupt, I suddenly can't play this game or use any of its functions in the browser because "Windows can't find the publisher!" and whenever I try to download it, it says "The registery refers to a nonexistent Java Runtime Environment installation or the runtime is corrupted. The system cannot find the file specified"
I re-downloaded Java and deleted all minecraft folders, but still no luck. the publisher names are game/ and skin/ and I would like an answer to this problem. I'm not sure if I need any more info
I got a problem when loading minecraft. I'm on windos7 and it always worked well but it eventually tried to update.
As I was not connected when the game attempted to update the donwload really messed up with 1103% and other ****. It end up saying done loading and staying here forever. I think i've seen other post about that out there but no answer so far.
Each time i play Minecraft, my GPU starts to work real hard. It gets very hot and the GPU fan begin to sound like an airplane. I really dont want to damage my video card, is there any solution?
I tried making a topic but no one help me.
Does someone have a fix for this error:
I get it when i play classic multiplayer, alpha or survival test.
And i won't put it on [code] because i'm highly annoyed.

I keep getting that exact thing (close to it) everytime I'm done playing and I lose my house and built items and locks me within blocks if I'm underground.
I've reinstalled Java, twice, and followed suggetions made on the first page. Nothing works. This is REALLY annoying.
I'm going to try some more things. But it is annoying.

I am the rare reclusive teenager that refuses to be dominated by Facebook.
I played Minecraft before... Alpha version.... BUT. When i try to update now, (It worked before but not now!) I just load up to 26%! No further... "Retrieving lwjgl.jar! or what the name is? It doesn't work on both website or downloaded. I use Windows 7!
EDIT: When i wait a while (a long one -.-) i get an error that's saying: "Error: Connection Reset" or something like that >,<
lol i could have sworn i was getting them with a stone pick.... im probably mistaken though
The short term solution I know of is getting a friend to log in on your computer, then disconnecting from the internet everytime you play, it will work fine, you just can't update. Meaning no Halloween :/

EDIT: When i wait a while (a long one -.-) i get an error that's saying: "Error: Connection Reset" or something like that >,<
PS: I have updated my Java and my video card.
