My 11 year old daughter is the main "Minecrafter" in our house, and after updating to 1.6.1, she was a little frustrated that she could not edit a sign on a fencepost. I went to the bug reporting site, and saw others had submitted the same thing.
Just a few minutes ago, she came up with a bit of a "work-around". Instead of just right-clicking to put down a sign on a fencepost, she holds down "left shift" and THEN right-clicks. And then the sign message can be edited. It also works on Nether brick fences.
I hope this helps anyone who has been frustrated by this little bug!
