So, I had some lag a few days ago, and I did these things to fix it, and it fixed them:
1. GET OPTIFINE - This can really help you get stable/more fps.
2. Give minecraft more ram! - Don't give it too much, or minecraft can lag! Mine is set at 758MB.
3. Update Java. - Java updates all the time!
4. Make sure your power settings are on high performance. - Mine was on Power Saver, and changing it helped a TON.
5. If you have a graphics card, set it to overdrive mode. - Some graphics cards will allow you to set it to overdrive mode. This will work the card a lot.
6. Open task manager and set minecraft's priority to Above Normal or High. - To do this do CRTL+ALT+DEL, select task manager, go to applications, right click minecraft and select "Go To Process". Then when you are at minecraft's process right click it and Set Priority.
7. Go from fancy to fast, decrease particals, set render distance lower.
8. Close unused programs open. - Internet browsers have a pretty big affect .
9. Change smooth lighting to off. - It may look like crap, but will run a lot better.
10. Update computer updates, run an antivirus, ect - Who knows? You may have a peace of male ware that is infecting your computer. I recommend Anti-MalewareBytes.
