If your Minecraft demo is crashing on Windows use this tutorial.
If your Minecraft demo is crashing on Mac use this tutorial.
This is a fix for the crashes that may occur while trying to play the Minecraft Demo on Ubuntu, it's very similar to the Windows and Mac fixes, it should work with any Minecraft version, given you have downloaded the jar from the Mojang blog for such.
To start make sure you have the demo in your ~/ folder, if you don't have it you can download it from Minecraft.net, if the page is down, wait for a couple of minutes until it's up again, shouldn't be more than 10.
The download link for the demo can be found below the 'Buy Now!' button in the Minecraft website, like in this picture.
Now that we have the demo file* in our ~/ folder we are going to download the prerelease files on this link.
*: The demo file is actually the same minecraft launcher you would normally download in the Website, you just need to login with a non-premium account and click on the play the demo button.
The file you have to download is the minecraft.jar in this blog post: http://www.mojang.co...1-3-prerelease/
You are going to get the Client prerelease, as shown in the picture below. picture by theFriedZombie.
Once you have the minecraft.jar from the Minecraft.net page (not the prerelease) you are going to put it in your ~/, login and download the files, this will create the ~/.minecraft folder, it will be a hidden folder, so in your file manager click on View and toggle the Show Hidden Files option.
Alternatively, you can use the Ctrl+H hotkey to toggle the option.
Now, assuming you have Java, you will put the minecraft.jar we downloaded from this link in the ~/minecrat/bin folder, replacing the one that was downloaded with the launcher.
With that done, you're going to download the LWGJL files, theFriedZombie took the time to repack it for Linux and sent it to me, download it here.
With that tar.gz file downloaded, open it up with your default Archive Manager and you should see something like this if you enter the bin folder:
Select all the files in that folder and extract them to the ~/.minecraft/bin folder.
Please note that if you're going to run Minecraft with a command in the terminal make sure the it is a lower case m.
You're done, enjoy your 100 minutes Minecraft trial! :3
Thanks to theFriedZombie for supplying the info and files used in this fix guide.

I am running Ubuntu 12.04 32 bit please help I need to play.
(This won't affect your Java 7, btw - it will just install alongside.)
After you install Java 6 (Oracle) just right click on the file you use to run minecraft, select Properties and choose to always open the file with Java 6 - all fixed!
