Ok so basically, I wanted to make a list of basic Minecraft tips for newcomers and veteran players who may just have never knew it. I will list them below and they are about various topics. I will try to update them as I think of/find out about more.
Please note that if something seems obvious does not mean it is obvious to all. Some merely have not discovered it or simply never needed to use it and have not ever researched it. So please no flaming saying "That's obvious noob!" or things like that.
So here we go!
General tips:
Placing a block of TnT in water will cause it to NOT harm blocks when it detonates.
Placing a torch on the side of a block and then placing placing sand/gravel on the next block up will allow the sand to stay in place.
Allowing sand/gravel to fall from the second block above a torch or higher will allow it to be destroyed as it hits the torch allowing for traps and quick farming.
You can place a redstone repeater against another redstone repeater if need be in the same circuit line to allow for more control over timing in compact areas,
You can place repeaters next to each other to allow parallel redstone circuits. Example: 2 pistons are next to each other and you want a wire leading directly into both, So what you do is put a repeater leading to the back of each one and then you can feed wire into it.
You can make a pulse loop (a redstone current that toggles quickly between on and off) and hook it into a dispenser filled with arrows and/or splash potions to make a rapid fire weapon.
Holding down shift while on a ladder will make it so you do NOT fall while standing still. This is great for building high ceilings.
Holding shift will allow to you walk to the edge of a cliff/roof/etc. without falling off. This is good for building bridges etc. So you can place the next row of blocks for the bridge without actually having to leave the bridge.
Pistons can be placed facing down which is great for controlling liquid flow into a room from the ceiling.
Water can wash away a torch/redstone torch allowing traps to be triggered.
Items tossed into the world (default "Q") will trigger wooden pressure plates.
Signs and fences can hold up water allowing for VERY creative work and traps!
Pouring water over lava will extinguish it and leave cobblestone/obsidian.
Redstone ore needs an iron pickaxe or better to be harvested.
Diamond ore needs an iron pickaxe or better to be harvested.
Gold ore needs an iron pickaxe or better to be harvested.
The following can be used as fuel for a furnace: Coal, Charcoal, Lava bucket (great for smelting full stacks) logs(not planks), saplings, wooden planks, bookcase, fences, fence gate, crafting table, chests, wooden stairs, trapdoors, wooden pressure plates, wooden tools. I believe more are being added in future updates.
Please note that if something seems obvious does not mean it is obvious to all. Some merely have not discovered it or simply never needed to use it and have not ever researched it. So please no flaming saying "That's obvious noob!" or things like that.
So here we go!
