@Skavies: Pffft HAHAHA! No worries buddie, that kind of stuff happens all the time. I fix computers sometimes to help out where I interned (A computer repair shop) and you won't believe how many times we've facepalmed cause we missed a small step/thing.
@thabest007: I'm confused too what it could be. An error report would really help. Are you sure you got 64bit version of java?
the youtube video at the firsst post almost at the bottom (about running mc with your nvidia card instead of integrated gpu) is down dont excist due to user having closed YT account got an other video about that??

Great guide, Minecraft is literally unplayable for me without optifine. But one suggestion, you note that defragmentation isn't needed for SSDs, but it should also be noted that it isn't needed for Linux in most cases either, due to it's superior file system (Unless you did something stupid like installing Linux on NTFS. EXT4 or BTRFS is the way to go.). I don't think there even are Linux defrag tools. Also, I commend you for recommending Linux, maybe we'll get a few more regular users from your guide. Although, for absolute max FPS, I would recommend ArchBang over Mint or Ubuntu, though Ubuntu is the king in terms of user friendliness. ArchBang's Openbox would, at least in theory, give you massively greater fps over Compiz or Muffin, depending on whether you chose Mint or Ubuntu. Slackbang or Crunchbang would likely give you similar results.
I usually have no lag at all exept when placing (and sometimes deleting in creative) blocks then i have a split second of lag and alot of times i end up placing two (sometimes three when it is really bad) of the block quickly this is extremely annoying. any suggustions?

Hey only a month late hehe... Sorry guys school has been killing me. No free time and when I do have free time I have to do something IRL. Anywho I heard this problem is cause by the fact that 1.3 is now online. Try playing offline, if it works it could be server lag. Of course this is a theory, no clue if playing offline will make the game not start as a server. highly doubt it'll work but hey it's worth a shot.

actually I recently discovered fullscreen and that fixed my problem.
Good guide! Somewhere in it you were talking about integrated graphics drivers, and how there's some alternative. I right clicked on my desktop, but I don't have nvidia cards. Instead I have AMD graphics cards, so I had to click on AMD control centre or something like that. Can someone help me? Cause I really want to boost my FPS.

I've asked an expert about this (By expert I mean someone who almost literally stalks Notch and Jeb on twitter) and it turns out that worlds are meant to simulate servers. That ironically means that the game is designed to be laggy =/

To all of you people who think Notch is still working on the game, he stopped working on Minecraft in late 2011. Get your facts straight and stop spamming his twitter about Minecraft updates.
game debate.com gave it a score of 3/10 for CPU, 2/10 for GFX and 4/10 for Ram. but it was still laggy when i downloaded the game and played offline.
i've since reformatted my laptop and am in the process of completing the reformat. should this take care of the lag issues over all?
i've also seen other tutorials on Youtube and browser searches claiming CCleaner.com and gamebooster.com are good to have to do away with lag, but i say you advised against gamebooster. is that still the case and if so are there free alternatives online for downloading?
finally. i also have an external Hard drvie which is a terabyte in size that i use for storing picuters and music on (loads of space left on it) can i install Minecraft on the terabyte and run the game through that? will this do away with the lag issue? if so, how do i download it onto my terabyte? i've tried this with iTunes for my iPod and it didn't work out so well.
I've come accross a way to force windows to always open java as high priority and tested this with a launcher such as MultiMc. I've tested with the basic launcher and it doesn't work with javaw.exe. Java is always set to high upon their launch due to its change by this registry file. I'm not providing a link to the registry file but rather its contents since if you can't figure out how to put it into a text editor and save it as a .reg file it may not be wise to make a permanent change to your registry. I'm not responsible for any issues that may arise from registry alteration.
To use it simply take the text from within the spoiler below and paste it into a text editor then save as a .reg file. The name you make for the reg file is irrelevant. Then, run the .reg file by double clicking it and you'll be prompted if you actually wish to change your registry because it may be a bad idea if something were to go wrong.
I have a odd problem I dont know if this is my RAM graphics card or if my comp sucks (60 fps on TF2 suckers) but whenever I look straight ahead I get 1-9 fps but when I look straight down or straight up I get 10-35 FPS any suggestions I've done just about everything on the list
6)Create a .bat file that contains the following text: (To create a .bat file you need to create a text file then change the extension from .txt to .bat.)
set APPDATA=d:\Minecraft\data bin\minecraft.exe
Where do i need to put the batch file and the line of code I put in doesnt seem to work.

a few general questions though
the laptop i have is an older model (2005) these are its specs http://www.cnet.com/laptops/toshiba-satellite-m105-s3084/4505-3121_7-32342176.html

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\java.exe\PerfOptions]
"CpuPriorityClass"=dword:00000003
What worked for me was playing in fullscreen mode. Who knows why, but for whatever reason it runs 100 times smoother in fullscreen.
