I've done all of this but minecraft still hits a max of about 7 FPS ><
Ah well I guess my computer is too crappy I'm pretty sure the fault lies with my integrated gpu.....
Indeed, theres only so much one can handle. Integrated gpu's are basically meant to just display your desktop not games XD
lol ur comp is crappy? my graphics card is mobile intel 965 express chipset family
intel pentium duo. and i have at the
least 15 at least now 20-40 on average

Same chipset I have, but a 1.6ghz intel atom. So yeahhh, that really doesn't help.
I did what you said and installed Ubuntu but minecraft just won't work! It has a black screen. I am using OpenJDK 7
Saw your other post where you updated lwjgl and it worked, didn't know there was a possibility the it might not even work without the new lwjgl, thought it was just buggy.
You can close it without affecting minecraft.
And just sharing from my own experience, recently upgraded to a Radeon HD 5570 and on max settings framerates are pretty decent.
I'm running a C2D E4300, 2GB RAM, and Windows Vista Home Basic.
My computer has an i7 950 cpu and a GTX 560Ti graphics card. My problem is that my processor is overheating (60C when minecraft is running) and my fan is going like crazy to keep it there. With that kind of cpu this cant be normal, right? I tried enabling vsync through nvidias control panel but that drops the temps by 3-4 degrees. Also, the inside of my pc is perfectly clean. Would it help if I launched minecraft with more ram? Currently it uses around 700MB when it runs. I have a total of 6GB. Also I'm using a 32x texture pack. I have set the graphics setting to fast and viewing distance to normal (changing it to tiny doesnt help at all).
Couldn't hurt to try, or maybe less memory, see what works. Try the multi core version of optifine, that might help too.

Are you running on an overclock? If so change back to stock speeds.
Also getting an extra case fan might help.
On another note, I have been getting major framerate drops in the nether no matter where I am. Disabling fire animation using optifine doesn't help. Normally I get 50-80 but in the nether its normally at 30, and every other second drops to 9 or so....

Hmm, honestly I have no clue. Is it only temporary or always while you're in the nether?
This is driving me crazy. I've had Minecraft for over a year now, had been working perfectly fine, a few hiccups here and there on multiplayer, but that was expected. But as of a few weeks ago, I'll start playing, and after 5-10 minutes (normally about 60fps), the game lags down to 2-3fps. I have no idea what happened. I haven't installed anything new in my desktop (hardware or programs) in months, so I'm not even sure where the blame lies. Opening up the Processes tab on the Task Manager shows java running close to 1GB, but that shouldn't be a problem.
My computer:
HP p6320f
Windows 7 SP1
AMD Phenom™ II X4 820 Processor 2.80 GHz
16 GB RAM
64-bit
NVIDIA GeForce 9100
But like I said, I had been playing Minecraft for months with no problems at all, and now, all of a sudden, I can't play anymore. I haven't changed anything!
I used a Youtube video to teach me how to increase the memory, thinking that that could be an issue, since it was only set for a little less than 1 GB. Even after raising it to 8GB, it still lagged back down to 3fps, even though my memory usage was never more than 20%. Can someone help me? My laptop just died (about six years old, and yet it could play no problem until its end), and I have no way to play anymore. Nothing on the OP has worked either.
EDIT: One thing I haven't done yet is open up the tower and check for dust accumulation. I'll try to get to that tonight and report how that goes.
It worked! Got a cannister of compressed air, opened up the tower, and the main cooling fan was covered in dust. After cleaning it, the filter, and blowing the dust out of every other section, I tried again. Works perfect. I don't know why this has was the first time there has been an issue, as this isn't the first computer I've used for years without cleaning the inside. But I don't care, I can play Minecraft as long as I want now (... again)!

Awesome! Speaking of dusting my laptop fan's always whirring and it feels like it's pumping out vaporized lava, should stop being lazy and dust it eventually XD
After i tried this, i suddenly couldn't connect to servers or play single player. every time i log in a server, minecraft just closes, and the same with the singleplayer world. how do i fix this? and here is the error log of you want it.

Considering Minecraft is CPU intensive,I'd say it needs all the extra memory it can get. Priority only changes how 'often' for want of a better word, that the computer will provide additional memory/allow extra cpu usage to go to Minecraft.
Critical System Processes are high by default, but very few processes that your computer will run in the background use a lot of CPU. Most are normal priority by default.
It will not cause instability in the system by increasing the priority of a program/process that you know needs a lot of CPU devoted to it.
Although in the other extreme, setting a program that uses a lot of memory to low priority, will cause lots of lag and slowdown, and just for the program itself. If you did this with Minecraft, I guarantee you would crash a lot more, and this would cause instability.
High priority on CPU intensive programs is the right way to go about reducing problems. Sure, anything in the background will run sluggishly if it's starved of memory, e.g internet browsers. This is why you shouldn't increase priorities when you have other programs running that also need an adequate allocation of memory.
If you're going to be using other programs while playing minecraft, then don't increase Minecraft's priority if you want everything else to run as smoothly.
I should say that reducing the priority of recording programs while increasing priority on Minecraft works perfectly fine. programs such as Fraps 'technically' run in the background. This will boost FPS while recording.
If you have a good computer that runs Minecraft fine, then priority won't do much, if anything for you.
If you have a poor computer, priority will often allow Minecraft to run smoother.
I also remember being pretty much the first person to point out that altering priority did improver performance.. eh it was sometime last year. I dunno if I could dig up a thread that old.
Yes, but I get lag when I do this, In less I close everything including explorer itself, I can open it via run though so, WE GOOD!
EDIT: One thing I haven't done yet is open up the tower and check for dust accumulation. I'll try to get to that tonight and report how that goes.
I'm having this same issue. Minecraft usually runs 70-100 FPS (well, averages 60-100 in SSP, and 100-120< in SMP) for me, but recently I'm getting 15 FPS.
I've been playing Minecraft with high FPS for over a year now, and no real changes to my computer have occurred.
To add to the issue, it's completely random. Sometimes it happens, other times it doesn't. It doesn't matter what's running,...
I can be running nothing and have lag, or be running Chrome and Photoshop with no lag.
I restart of log off, upon trying again I may find it to be in either condition. Some things can just randomly make Minecraft perform correctly.
I read your comment, and dusted out my computer (a few months of light dust), and when I started back up, it was fixed. But, I know the dust wasn't the cause, as it started occurring again today! Sometimes it lags, other times it runs fine.
Anyone know the true cause of this speed kill?

Retired StaffSame chipset I have, but a 1.6ghz intel atom. So yeahhh, that really doesn't help.

Retired StaffSaw your other post where you updated lwjgl and it worked, didn't know there was a possibility the it might not even work without the new lwjgl, thought it was just buggy.

Retired StaffThink you can only minimize it. Not rue what happens if you try to close it
And just sharing from my own experience, recently upgraded to a Radeon HD 5570 and on max settings framerates are pretty decent.
I'm running a C2D E4300, 2GB RAM, and Windows Vista Home Basic.

Retired StaffCouldn't hurt to try, or maybe less memory, see what works.

Retired StaffHmm, honestly I have no clue. Is it only temporary or always while you're in the nether?
Gonna try this mod out: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1238817-nether-lag-fix-client/ and see whether it improves the situation for me.

Retired StaffHow'd it go?
But I don't care, I can play Minecraft as long as I want now (... again)!

Retired StaffAwesome! Speaking of dusting my laptop fan's always whirring and it feels like it's pumping out vaporized lava, should stop being lazy and dust it eventually XD
