Voordal, I figured out how to fix it! In case you ever get a world that needs this kind of fixing: all you need to do is use single player commands and perform the following commands: /kill creeper, /kill skeleton, /kill enderman, and /kill zombie. What happens is hostile mobs become "stuck" in unloaded chunks, however, they are kept loaded in the save file. Therefore, it becomes very easy to max out the hostile mob limit, thus halting any further mobs from spawning. Thank you for the offer of help, and I hope that this helps you in the future c:

I've already posted to MCSaver.net, but just in case the info doesn't make it to you there, I'm repeating it here:
The power went out while I was playing, and now my world doesn't show up in the MC menu, although the files are still in the saves folder.
This is a superflat world with about half a dozen villages (that I've found so far) scattered about. In my "main" village (at x=123, z=-455) I had several pens with sheep, cows, and chickens, and a grove of about 40 oak trees. In various buildings I had a number of double chests filled with cobblestone, stone slabs, wood, wooden planks, gravel, dirt, wool, some gold ingots, iron ingots, and obsidian blocks. I also had a stone hoe and a pair of iron shears. There was a bed in one of the small, doorless buildings in the main village, which I *had* slept in recently.
Most of what I was carrying (wheat, wood, saplings, and torches) I can replace, but I would hate to lose the gravel blocks (close to 150) and dirt blocks (about 75) I was carrying, because those are pretty hard to come by on superflat (gravel has to be "harvested" from other villages, and dirt is equally hard to obtain since superflat is only 4 levels above bedrock). I also had about 3-4 each stone pickaxes, axes, and shovels, which are rather "expensive" to make on superflat, as well.
I forgot to mention in the MCSaver.net submission, but I don't have any mods except MCPatcher (to run HD texture packs).

Thank you so much, voordal! That was fast!
I'm not sure whether it's related, but when I loaded my world, I started getting void fog. I've never gotten that before, even on superflat, and I thought I had it turned off somehow. I exited and reloaded MineCraft, and it was still there. Then I went into options to check on the texture pack, thinking that might be the problem. When I tried to click on a texture pack, MineCraft crashed. Now every time I try to load MineCraft, it crashes as soon as it gets to the Mojang splash screen. Rebooting doesn't help. I even tried reinstalling it, to no avail. Any ideas?
I've managed to fix the crashing, but the void fog is still there. None of my other superflat worlds have it. Could it be that the world type was changed from superflat to normal?

That is almost certainly the reason, if it says it is normal.
One thing: If it is truly a NORMAL world, then when you find a new chunk, it will load like a normal world chunk. Be warned.

EdenR: If I haven't already fixed your problem, or you havent, email me (you should have my info). It sounds like I may have inadvertantly left it on the wrong mode. I can fix this.

My world has so much lag that it takes 5 minutes to load and every movement takes forever to register. The only important things in my inventory are cmy diamond sword and diamond pickaxe. My house is in a snow biome and has a nethar portal and pig and sheep pens beside it.
EDIT: The next update fixed the crash, so no need to fix it.

If what says it is normal? Where would I find that? It's definitely not in the options menu or the launcher menu.
You mean, with non-flat terrain and stuff?
