It's not a mystery any more. At least not for me. I had this issue on both 1.3.01 and 1.4 beta. I'm running a server on x4 640 CPU. With spawn-monsters=true or spawn-animals=true the CPU load varied from 70% to 100% with only 2(!!!) people on the server. When I turned off my Avast 6 antivirus(disabled all shields) CPU load instantly dropped to 15%. That's it! It's unbelievable, yes. But it fixed the problem for me. I also turned-off Windows defender just in case.
Please, confirm if turning off antivirus software worked for you.
This worked for us. We can now play 4 people in one server without it lagging. Earlier we could hardly play two at a time.
Seems like only the server needs to have avast disabled though.
Yep, but still.. 7 players online and my CPU is 50% loaded. No lags for them, but if i try to run minecraft and connect to my own server locally..It's 100% CPU load and quite unplayable for me. :sad.gif:
Not only is this problem unique to SMP ("Has anyone tried to start a single player world?"), it happens on locally hosted servers that have no such issue with beta 1.2. Giving a server time to load by walking away for ten minutes does generate more terrain, but text and player actions still lag behind by at least a minute. I imagine some hardware or software incompatibility was introduced in 1.3 (more than a month ago, mind you—this is not "new" and Mojang has had ample time to at least acknowledge the problem) and stuck around for 1.4. I would like to test a fresh Windows install on the same hardware, but don't have the extra space to clean off my main disk at the moment.
I've had this problem recently as of late on my SINGLE PLAYER. minecraft (no server, just plain playing all by myself)
here's what's I've noticed
before starting the minecraft launcher. I have the usual
Username : @#*@#&*
[] Force Update
V12.2 Enter Game
Backup Manager
when I join my world 1 on single player the top left than displays "Beta 1.4"
as the world loads, it's like on a multi server, you see nothingness, than the sky clouds the blue of the world etc. than the spawn point land mass etc.
here's my problem, with one flick of the mouse, the movement takes about 10+ seconds to register. to walk even longer.
at first I tried destroying a block underneath me. now I'm not sure if I can even do anything! it is so frustratingly laggy that as I mentioned before, even attempting to turn around 1*-360* would take minutes (Have not attempted to do so since... well I'm an impatient human I suppose)
hope some of my nonsense made sense.
I will also like to add, I can create a new single player world and it works perfectly fine, just my very first (and only so far) world won't work. due to the 'Can't get away from spawn' issue)
Has anyone ever tried the temperamental method to fixing MC? During 1.3 i did a lot of testing with a lot of compatibility features turned on and off. While doing that, sometimes it would be a false positive. The problem resolved itself without my tempering but it would come back again for another reason. This leads me to suspect that MC is very temperamental and doesn't do this all the time... probably 9/10...
I will suggest to someone to run Minecraft in safemode. I will do this as well. See if the problem persists, and report back...
Like many fellow users, I've been experiencing this mysterious lag issue. I noticed that, in and around the 1.4 patch, I have been experiencing significantly higher than usual lag after connecting to the server.
Here's what I know. The day patch 1.4 released me and my friend were able to play on the server lag free (just the two of us). But the following few days afterwards, only I was afflicted by the obnoxious lag. After some testing, we were able to "solve" (or at least we believe so) this latency issue by turning "spawn-monsters=" to false under the server properties file.
Our only guess is that it has to do with how monsters are coded, or how the game requests resources, as my friend has resources to spare on his system, and I am able to use other applications latency free.
I'm having this problem too. It's pretty bad and I'm the only one who seems to experience it on the server I play on. The server does lag a little bit because it's located halfway around the world from most of us, and it's on an older computer, but the lag I get far surpasses what would be expected of a server like that. Basically what people are describing is what I have. Horrible lag, takes seconds to open chests, hit things, get hit, etc. It's only gotten worse with 1.4 as well. Before 1.4 if I was the only person on the server I had only a little lag. Now, even if Im alone, I get massive lag. Please notch, you need to fix this D:

works for alot of games, for installing ask someone who is good with software cause you need to make sure about not shutting down your firewall and stuff
Mmmkay can someone test this out? I just downloaded the 1.4 downgrader to 1.3 and it doesn't seem like i'm getting lag anymore. Someone verify this please? I can't do a safe mode test because it doesn't lag on 1.3 anymore :/
I'm getting a similar issue. My ISP provider was giving me a ton of issues yesterday, and I'm trying to get the port forwarding to work through their retarded modem, so I didn't think anything of it until after I fixed that, and they returned my precious internet.
I've messed with my server enough to give it 3 gb of mem, while running the actual game on my laptop, but no matter what, I'm still getting around a 5 second lag for opening chests, breaking/setting blocks etc., but I've stopped the dropped connection problem I think.
I'm working in a dark area, way underground, and I've noticed no other mobs besides giant slimes are spawning. It's a large area, but the mob spawn rate seems ridiculously high. If I kill the slimes (through the 5 second lag ugh) their slimelings turn invisible and invincible and knock me around until the big slimes kill me. Once and awhile I'll get a big slime that's invisible/invincible.
I'm still getting other mobs on the surface, including animals, in normal amounts.

I'm not exactly sure this qualifies, but the mods are banning people left and right for linking to minecraft file downloads elsewhere besides minecraft.net.

Oh i see... Well, this wasn't my creation. This forum was dubbed an official forum so i think that anything that is made officially and doesn't mess up computers can be added here. Notch doesn't support mods because he doesn't know where they have been and can steal your information... I suppose that could lead to a ban but i'm not sure that actually using mods will cause banning. This is because you may use mods in single player without interfering with other people. There also happens to be multiplayer servers with mods.
14.1 Update, still fixed for me, even from 14.1. Anyone tried downgrading and seeing if it still lags in safe mode?
!.4_01 didn't do anything. I tried it on a server, and the lag wasn't there for the first minute, but then....it came back.
Dammit! Must be fixed now! We shall give Notch himself diamonds. DIAMONDS.
Well i have a huge FPS problem... i have a good PC it runs mc with around 130 FPS but at times when i get on and make it fullscreen or i just look the other way from which i was lookin at when i got on the freakin fps drops to 3 or 4.Now when i disconnect and put my render distance to tiny it runs a bit better but only after i disconnected and it get back to normal if i make my window smaller. It stays like that until i restart my PC , or it just randomly disappears and sometimes when i end a process called jusched.exe or something like that... well basically i need help.
I have the same problem as this guy, maybe he explained it better
This also happens both in SMP and Single. My java is up to date.viewtopic.php?f=17&t=100437
