Which is odd considering I only get like 20-30fps on Far view distance anyway.
Worked for me as well. Except I never drop below 100 fps. I logged on my server this evening to play some MC and everything was lagged by 30 or more seconds while the other 25 people in game were having a merry little time. Found this thread, and tried that so called "fix" and, unbelievably, it worked.
What a real shithole of a game if the vsync option can COMPLETELY cripple it online.
Just recently, we started up a little home server for just a few of us to play on privately. Everything was working pretty smoothly yesterday, but as we were playing today my gf was getting worse and worse of the lag described here (blocks not updating to destroyed, items not picking up, etc.). At first it would just catch up after a few seconds, but towards the end of our playtime it would just boot her from the server. It got to be so bad she couldn't do anything.
It wasn't her laptop overheating, because it's temp was running the same all day. She was the only one it was affecting at all, and she was on the same network as 2 others of us. And again, it started out ok yesterday and beginning of today, but got progressively worse, even after letting laptop shut down, reboot, etc.
She has always had limit framerate on, tried toggling it anyway but didn't help. She uses default skin, default texture pack. She has no noticeable lag in SP. It was almost 100% some kind of network error, it just couldn't keep synched up for some reason. Didn't matter if there were 1, 2, or 4 of us on the server, still lagged her.
Tomorrow I'll have to try reinstalling minecraft (or force updating it). Everything else works fine, just MC is failing. It's a real shame, she's been looking forward to playing online since she bought it :sad.gif:
More then likely your upload speed is to low to host a server.
Despite the fact that none of her symptoms point to that being a problem? The most players we had on at once was 4. 3 of those 4 had ZERO issues with lag at all. The 4th, her, had constant lag issues. These issues persisted even when ALL other players left and she was alone on the server. We are not hosting the server on her computer either, so that's not a factor.
If it was simply upload speed, it wouldn't be her alone suffering the problem.
I used to have this problem, until I went out and got a PCI Ethernet Network Interface Card (AKA network adapter) from TP-Link for $8. That fixed it, amongst other issues which were not as obvious until Minecraft SMP came along. On my end, the integrated NIC was the problem -- a Atheros card -- which slowed down more and more when it encountered a massive load of packets, and that's even after tweaking the settings. My first replacement, a Edimax card (Realtek in disguise) was even worse. I couldn't even connect.
I suspect it may just be Realtek/Atheros network adapters causing this, since they make well over 90% of all network adapter chips.
I suffer (a lot) from all symptoms described above in SMP; SSP is perfectly fine, but on any server I connect to I get insane lag. It seems like what I do or type arrives at the server immediately, but it takes about a minute until I see it. Chunks take ages to load if they do at all, and I often find myself just falling infinitely through the void. I almost always get disconnected after a while with various errors, mostly "read timed out".
In what seems like completely random times, the lag is gone and I can play; most of the time, no such luck. The tcpbuffer program seems to have little effect if any. My java is the most recent version, and I started playing minecraft in 1.7.3.
Attn: This problem has been solved for me. I don't know how, or why, but my computer doesn't lag anymore.
Discuss.
This issue seems to be extremely random and elusive, and different people on different systems have different solutions.
Am I the only one with this problem now? Or is everyone else simply hiding or not playing SMP? Is there some fix I'm not aware of that's been discovered in the months following the last post here?

Getting insane lag on multiplayer? Raise awareness. Post here.
Ok, so I posted in another thread and was linked here. New patch, 1.8 is out and the problem hasn't been fixed yet. Anyone have an possible solutions that might have worked for atlesat some people?
The lag is apparently random when logging in. Thus, if I connect to a server, leave it and connect again, maybe a dozen or two times at least, eventually I will get a *relatively* lag-free experience.
Can other people try it (it takes a bit of time...) and say if this "fix" works for them too?

The code freeze is the best time for this problem to be located and fixed so that all those people can finally play multiplayer, which is the main focus of development. So... *Boink*

This issue *still* needs to be looked at, or at least have Mojang acknowledge it. Minecraft can't be considered a full game when so many people can't play multiplayer because of a bug.

We are playing on 1.0.1 minecraft using bukkit 1.0.1-R1 on the server we use.
SYMPTOMS: My friend has the symptoms described in the lead post, on ALL servers he go on:
Cannot load the map on any server, there will just be void and falling players and mobs, sometimes a small piece of land will load. Any interactions, chests, taking damage, smash a block, will be very delayed or not happen at all. when he tries to sign in and out repeatedly, very rarely sometimes it works and he won't have the world loading problem and people will load properly.
Network card: He does not have an Atheros network card but an intel one.
Windows 7.
these lag problem only appears when he is playing on his home network, he has played from other locations without problems.
His network conncetion is terribly slow, but he can play other online games without issue for (halo, fighting games etc).
We assumed it was the connection, but due to this thread I am no longer sure. They will get a new provider in february so we can look again then.
The server we go on recieve this error message when my friend signs on it ( i took out the username and ip):

This should really be looked into.. Haven't been able to play SMP since Alpha.
