Good PC Specs w/ poor Minecraft Performance - Java Edition Support - Support - Minecraft Forum

Hey All,
Just have a simple request here. I am experiencing some really low FPS (20-39) in the Vanilla version of Minecraft. (1.7.9) My PC is definitely not on the low end side with a pretty good CPU and a Workstation graphics card that runs other games like the Mass Effect series on max settings, 1080p. (60+ FPS of course)
Here are my Specs:
CPU: I7-2600 Clocked at 3.4Ghz
GPU: NVS 300 (I know it's a weird card but that's because it's a workstation card.)
Ram: 6gb of IDK
Hardrive: Scorpio Black 7200RPM

So it's not a great PC but it should do the job, I'm talking 70+ FPS with Max Settings in Minecraft.
P.S. Drivers are all up to date, latest 64bit Java, Optifine didn't increase FPS much (5-7 FPS)

Bump on this. I'm having the same issues, and it seems like no matter what I do I can't improve it. I have an AMD FX 8350 8 cores @ about 4Ghz or so. I have 16gb of ram, a Geforce GTX 660 ti with 2gb memory. I have Minecraft and java both installed and running from their own dedicated hard drive, with my operating system on a Samsung 128gb SSD. I've tried tweaking the video all over the place, as well as adding optifine in 1.6.4. Best I can get is about 100fps, and I don't even want to talk about what happens if I use fraps for recording. I'll get random dips below 20fps. There are a ton of really useful threads on improving performance, and I've followed them all. With the rig I have, should I really have this much trouble? If more detail is needed about my setup let me know, I'm writing this from my phone and can't think of everything right now.

you cant run minecraft on MAX setting change your render distance or something just mess around with your GRAPHICS setting and it should fix it . your rig isnt bad id say get a new GPU but yea not good enough to play on max everything. can always try optifine and choose figure out what makes your game playable to where you feel comfortable about how it looks and you get good fps. pretty much all you can do

There is something wrong here. There is a new rendering system in 1.8 try it. If 1.8 is much slower your PC doesn't support the rendering system fully. My i3 2.4ghz Intel HD 4000 gets 30-80 fps (I hacked opengl on so looking at the ground is about 75 and outward is about 40). On 1.8 turn vbo on. I run portal 2 at about 80. Java basically turns java code to your operating system code. That's a slowdown. Also randomly generated worlds need light calculations, and complicated stuff I don't know about.

1.8 does perform a lot better. I hadn't really got into too much to do some testing before. Hit 160 fps a few times and it behaved pretty well. While recording I had a few dips to around 25, but other than that it wasn't bad. I didn't follow one of the rules when I built my PC, I had a lot of the parts purchased up fron but the GPU was one of the last and I didn't have the money to spend on something better. At least it runs and I can get some pretty good performance from other games as well. Guess I just need to tweak things and find something that will work for my setup. Thanks!
