I last played MC when it was in version 1.4.2, and I'd really like to get back into it, when I try to update it to 1.7.9, the loading bar finishes, the launcher closes then reopens with the pop-up saying that you need to update your graphics card drivers. So I did the whole auto-detect thing for my ATI Radeon HD 4800, and apparently I have the latest driver installed. I just installed the latest version of java and avast isn't telling me that I need to update it. please help :~:

1. Use the uninstall option of the catalyst driver package that I linked (http://support.amd.c...=Windows 8 - 64) to remove all AMD components from the computer.
2. Use the install option of the catalyst driver package to do an Express install of the driver.
3. Change the display adaptor to use the new driver:
a. Navigate to Going to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Devices and Printers > Device Manager > Display Adaptors > ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series.
b. Right-click on "ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series" and open "Properties".
c. Click on the "Driver" tab and click on "Update Driver".
d. Select "Browse My Computer for Driver Software".
e. Select "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer".
f. Select "ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series" (the one without "Microsoft Corporation...").
g. Click "Next". The driver should start installing and your screen should filcker a few times.
h. Click "Close".
Yeah, this fixed the problem, I actually tried this fix while waiting for a response to this thread but I didn't reinstall AMD catalyst (apparently I didn't have amd catalyst installed, I probably forgot to install it) and simply doing so made that much of a difference.
PS: I think that my computer's consistent crashing when playing certain games or watching livestreams on twitch was a result from not having AMD catalyst installed, I'll find out sooner or later > Yeah it fixed my computer crashing shenanigans c:
PPS: Thanks so much AJ, :DDDDDDDDDDDDD <3
PPSSSP? : Yeah, have the latest driver installed definitely fixed my computer crashing problems
I have the same issue, only uninstalling all AMD and then re-installing and following the rest of the steps didn't work. My errors are the same and the only difference that I've seen is i have Card name: ATI Radeon HD 4200 Series (Microsoft Corporation-WDDM v1.1), instead of Card name: ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series (Microsoft Corporation-WDDM v1.1).
What is the issue when following the steps? Is it an error when installing the catalyst control package? Or is it that when you manually select a driver the AMD driver doesn't show? Or is it something else?
well I tried it one more time, and while installing, it says there were some warnings. i clicked on view the log and it says the display driver fails, which then causes it to still install the ATI Radeon HD 4200 Series with the suffix (Microsoft Corporation-WDDM v1.1) and not just the ATI Radeon HD 4200 Series
Hmm. I found on the Steam thread that someone else had another solution. Here are the instructions they posted.
BEFORE the installation of the AMD driver package go to Control Panel -> System -> Device manager, and find your graphics adapter and click on properties, then "Update driver" and select from a list and choose "Generic Microsoft VGA adapter" or something similar that's not AMD, the installation of the AMD package should succeed.

Here's the entire dxdiag log
Card name: ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM v1.1)
It seems to me that you don't have the proper drivers intalled. In the first post you said you have already tried updating the drivers.
I would first try installing the drivers again here: http://support.amd.c...=Windows 8 - 64
If that does not work then read on
I found a thread here that might help: http://steamcommunit...24952616339808/
Here are the instructions from the thread:
PS: I think that my computer's consistent crashing when playing certain games or watching livestreams on twitch was a result from not having AMD catalyst installed, I'll find out sooner or later > Yeah it fixed my computer crashing shenanigans c:
