Today, I switched to 14w18b, then I went on one of my creative servers. I looked in the chest, and all the items were gone. That one had cheats on, so I didn't care, I could switch to anything, and get anything back. Then, I went on my Survival worlds (with no cheats), and I looked in the chest to see if I was having the problem on that world. I wasn't at that time, so I went on one of my other Survival worlds (this time with cheats), and my inventory was empty. I could of sworn there were stuff in my inventory. Then, I went back on my Survival world without cheats, looked in the chest, and my stuff, including my set of iron armour, my diamond pick, and my 10 obsidian I needed for the Nether portal. I was really sad. All my progress was gone, except my levels. Is this a bug, or is that what normally happens when you switch snapshots?
It's what happens when you switch from a 1.8 based snapshot to an older version of minecraft.
1.8 has new item ids. You can 'upgrade' to 1.8, but you can't downgrade from it afterward.
As the launcher warns, snapshots are risky.
