My brother and his girlfriend are literally across the hall on their laptops, playing Minecraft. They are using WiFi on laptops, while I am using Ethernet on a desktop.
My brother opened a LAN world on his laptop and his girlfriend was able to join it without a problem.
When I joined it, it said "Connecting to the server..." for about 30 seconds.
Then it changed to "java.net.ConnectException: Connection timed out: no further information:/IPADDRESS"
I am on Minecraft 1.7.9, and yes I have checked to make sure my brother and his girlfriend are on the same version.
Don't tell me to Google it or search on the forums. I have already done that and I have tried literally everything that has been suggested in the past. I have also tried completely deleting my ".minecraft" folder, and without making any changes at all to the contents of the folder.
I am assuming it is the fact that I am on Ethernet and they are on WiFi. Although I am directly connected to the router that they are wirelessly connected to.
Any attempts at helping me are greatly appreciated,
Thanks,

I managed to find out by doing searches on games that aren't Minecraft that Ethernet and WiFi are infact incompatible with each other whilst trying to play LAN. Is there a work around for this?
That is in fact not true.
But there are many things that can cause connectivity issues. In your case it is probably something on your computer, or in your router.
You may also just not be seeing the game announcements [Your computer firewall could be eating them, or the router may not be sending them from WiFi to ethernet]. Did you try doing a direct connection after manually determining what the server's ip address is?
