Hello everyone, I started Minecraft today and I cannot connect to servers, the client doesn't give me a detailed error message, so I grabbed one from a server log, the log reads:


xXWoobieXx lost connection: TranslatableComponent{key='disconnect.genericReason', args=[Internal Exception: io.netty.handler.codec.DecoderException: java.io.IOException: The received string length is longer than maximum allowed (12 > 7)], siblings=[], style=Style{hasParent=false, color=null, bold=null, italic=null, underlined=null, obfuscated=null, clickEvent=null, hoverEvent=null}}

Can someone please tell me what's going on?

EDIT: In case it matters, I was on a 1.7.9 client and was trying to connect to a 1.7.9 server. However I did try on 1.7.5 as well, same Issue.

Try backup up your %appdata%/.minecraft directory and remove it from appdata. Then try to start minecraft.

Give us more detailed info. I managed to extract a lot of info from your error message though.
It appears the server is running Bukkit. There is a faulty plugin loaded that is causing errors. Try removing the plugins one by one to find the problematic one.

I got the error message from a vanilla server that I was running on my machine, so a faulty Bukkit plugin isn't the issue.
I will upload screenshots of me trying to connect to servers later today.
