Well... The FPS I get in 1.7.4 w/o Optifine are about 230, but in the recent 1.8 snapshots my FPS started dropping to 40-50 or even 25 and also chunks load very slow...
This issue happened to me before with my old (RIP) laptop but it was only in 1.7.x and most of its snapshots. I was so happy when I saw how smoothly Minecraft 1.7 ran with my new laptop that I thought I would not be experiencing this issue again, but I was wrong, it happened again...
I have updated my drivers, updated Java, uninstalled Minecraft, allocated more RAM for the game, allocated less RAM for the game, forced it to use the dedicated graphics card... Nothing has worked. I wanna know if anyone here can help with this problem! If this doesn't get fixed I will most likely be not able to play 1.8 when it's released!
My specs are:
Intel Core i7 4700MQ
6 GB of RAM
GeForce GT 755M 2 GB DDR5
EDIT: One last thing: Now (and because I know some people will suggest this), please note that lowering my settings should not be and is not a real solution. Why? Because obvious reason is obvious. And also, please don't tell me something like "It's just a snapshot, you should wait the 1.8 release because it's still all WIP", I did that with 1.7, aaaand guess what? that didn't solve my problem AT ALL! Not trying to be mean at all, I just want to play 1.8 so hard...
...I waited for this changes for so long, specially the new enchanting system.
the last 1.8 snapshot I tried ran like crap on my computer. Whereas all prior versions of minecraft ran great.
I'm assuming that the snapshot performance was just poor.

I would think that too, but these performance issues appear to happen randomly: some users get terrible performance with the new verions, others say they got a boost and others doesn't note the difference. Seems ridiculous and it's very annoying for me.
